Do not trust MetLife Pet Insurance when it actually matters.
I have been a MetLife pet insurance customer with three dogs on the same policy. Every time one of my dogs got sick and I submitted a claim, the VET visit was categorized as "Office Visit/Consultation" — and every single one of those claims was approved without issue. Same language, same format, every time. Then came my dog Dobby's last visit on April 16, 2026. He was sick. The vet gave him Cerenia injections for vomiting, prescribed Metronidazole for what was clearly a gastrointestinal illness, and ran diagnostic bloodwork to find out what was wrong. MetLife denied the entire $482 claim and called it "Preventive Care." Preventive. For a dog who was actively sick and being treated with an antibiotic and anti-nausea injections. What made this so much worse is that Dobby passed away. I was grieving my dog while simultaneously having to build a formal appeal letter citing their own policy language back at them just to fight for a $154.99 reimbursement. The same type of visit they had approved for my other dogs multiple times suddenly became grounds for a full denial — no explanation, no call, just a form letter. The inconsistency is infuriating. The timing made it cruel. If you're considering MetLife Pet Insurance, understand that their claims process is inconsistent, and when you're at your most vulnerable — when your pet is sick or dying — that's exactly when they will give you the hardest time. I filed a formal appeal. I shouldn't have had to.

Healthy Paws is My Hero
Getting Healthy Paws pet insurance was one of the best decisions I ever made in caring for my golden retriever Maia. She's only 2 1/2 years old and was recently diagnosed with elbow dysplasia and significant osteoarthritis. I was devastated at the news! I bought her policy before her first birthday, so all the waiting periods were past. Healthy Paws has covered everything I expected them to with no additional follow up needed. They've been quick to process claims, easy to work with, and easy to understand. I am grateful to Healthy Paws for helping us navigate this sudden and unexpected turn. It's a heartbreaking diagnosis, but at least I know that she'll have great care with team Healthy Paws on our side. I highly recommend!!

Stunned!
I am stunned to read such positive reviews concerning timeliness and ease of the claims process. It has been nearly a month since I submitted my claim. I am having the exact opposite experience. I thought I was prepared and immediately forwarded pages of detailed expenses in excess of $20K for maximum reimbursement of $7K. The medical surgery provided is not known to be a from a pre-existing condition, so I am frustrated with their “fishing expedition” to obtain medical records from the first 6 months of her life. My pet has been insured with Spot for more than 2 years. She is 3 1/2 years old. I have not submitted any claims.
