What I really love about Metlife is how…
What I really love about Metlife is how simple it is to file a claim and to get reimbursed. Also, any problems that arise you are immediately helped by customer service (a real person in the U.S.) What I don't like is how my yearly fee went up VERY DRASTICALLY in a short amount of time. I have had this policy (100% coverage, $250 deductible) since owning my bulldog as a pup. Year 3 it jumped. I was able to keep the policy by changing to 80% coverage. This part I do not like.

“Pre-Existing Condition Applied Without Diagnostic Confirmation”
I am extremely disappointed with my experience with Trupanion after being a paying customer for four years. My dog, recently required dental surgery. The claim was denied based on a veterinary note from approximately four years ago that mentioned signs of periodontal disease. At that time, there was no comprehensive dental exam performed—no dental X-rays and no periodontal probing under general anesthesia—so there was no way to confirm a diagnosis. After the initial denial, I spoke directly with a Trupanion manager, who told me that if the veterinarian could confirm that what Beebop had four years ago was not related to his current condition, and provided a supporting letter after the final bill, Trupanion would pay for the surgery. I followed those instructions exactly. The veterinarian provided a letter clearly stating that, in their professional opinion,(which this letter was complete ignored) it could not be confidently stated that periodontal disease was a pre-existing condition, especially given the lack of proper diagnostics at that time. Despite this, the appeal was denied again. I find it very frustrating that after years of paying premiums on time, following every instruction given by Trupanion management, and providing professional veterinary documentation, the claim was still refused. This experience has caused significant stress at an already difficult time when my focus should have been on my dog’s health. Based on this experience, I no longer feel confident that this insurance provides the support it promises when it is actually needed.“Failing resolution, I am prepared to pursue this matter through the appropriate court, including Small Claims Court, as permitted under Canadian law.”
