Happy thus far
I have had a couple of claims with my dogs (I have 3 samoyeds) and some have been denied for obvious reasons. I understand this is a business also and pre existing issues are not considered. I just recently had my youngest samoyed who is 4 years old diagnosed with Addison's disease which is an adrenel gland disorder. It took them about 5 days for review and processing and the reimbursement was deposited with 2-3 days after that. This is a lifetime disease but not as costly as other diseases so I know that they will pay for any issues that may arise for this claim. I was relieved to know that the insurance would be there for me when needed.

Trupanion has been great for us. They did a preauthorization for our Cat's operation and have taken care of all the follow up. They have saved us over $500!

Trupanion saved my puppy
Darcy is my 8 month old Rhodesian Ridgeback who started his young career in the show ring. He was doing great, but seemed to have a slight limp when he played too hard. At first we thought he was going through growing pains; but after taking him to a vet we found out he had a problem with his right front elbow. We then took him to another vet specialist and had a CT scan done. The worst was confirmed ununited anconeal process and medial coronoid process; and he needs an operation. Thank God that we took out insurance with Trupanion. They have been supportive and quick at returning our refund. it was the first time I took out insurance and won't be the last. You never know when you will have problems with your pet and you sure don't want to put down a loved one.

They pay claims
They've paid all of my claims so far and paid close to the claimed amount. Some parts of the claims were not covered, but nothing major.

Pet insurance
I like ASPCA better than the last insurance company I dealt with. It does seem to take a long long time for the claims to be processed, though. That's my only negative feeling about this insurance company.

Worth It
Our most recent claim involved a late night trip to the emergency vet, xrays and ultrasounds -- none of which are cheap. Submitted $1400 worth of claims and received $800 back from ASPCA, which more than paid for the year's premiums. Adding to the overall value is the pleasant customer service team, who have consistently been friendly, sympathetic and helpful on the phone. My one complaint would be what I feel is ASPCA's unfair comparison of what they consider the fair/average rate for vet services as they don't seem to take geography into account; EVERYTHING is much more expensive in NYC, so not accurate to base reimbursement on what the going rate is in other states/cites. Regardless, still worth it.
