I'm Amazed
My 11 month old chocalate lab puppy caught a nasty bout off Colitis. I got him to the Vet and he needed tests to rule out obstructions, bloodwork and stayed overnight to get IV and medication to get everything under control. My Vet and I filled out all the paperwork and sent all his records since it was our first claim. I faxed all the information this morning and by this evening I was notified that my claim was approved minus my deductible and I would be receiving $435 on my claim. I figured at least 2 to 3 weeks, and can't believe that it was processed soo quickly. I'm relieved to know Guinness is covered and that this company will come through.

Terrible insurance - not to be recommended
First of all, I would like to say that all of my pets are rescued animals...With that being said, I am very disappointed in how my most recent claim was handled. I have an older cat that has bad hips and sometimes has difficulty going to the bathroom. After speaking with the vet, she was placed on a lax 'aire (which of course is not covered by ASPCA insurance) two times per week. Well, within a two month period, because she is older, she had a severe emergency and was brought to the hospital because she could not go to the bathroom and was in severe pain. The vets in the hospital thought it could be a tumor. Turns out, fortunately, she just needed a change of diet. However, the bill of over $700 (which for for x-rays and other tests to rule out tumors) was not covered AT ALL - after putting in hundreds of dollars into pet insurance that should be covering me, they DID NOT AID ME AT ALL!!! In addition, I have had previous issues with receiving money back. The company dictates what they think a "reasonable cost" for vet bill is. In other words, vet check up for me may cost $69.34 - they feel that a reasonable cost is only $17.34. I think that is completely insulting and absolutely disgusting. This has occurred MANY times over the last few years. Finally, after calling up the company, they were completely unhelpful and fixing the matter.

Paid 1st claim as promised
This was my first claim with Trupanion. I just signed up a little over a month ago and my puppy already got sick. I called Trupanion and they encouraged me to take my puppy in. I did and Trupanion quickly turned my claim around.

I am unhappy with this pet insurance
I have been very unhappy with the decisions that Embrace has made on what they would cover. My dog had an ear infection after we joined and then another 6 mos later and they said that this was a chronic/preexisting condition and wouldn't pay. I spoke to an account rep and told them that if my child had 2 ear infections a year the insurance company would not consider this a pre-existing condition. Also I submitted a claim dated December and waited to hear from the company. No paperwork came back. I called the company and they said that the claim was not being paid out because it would go toward the deductible. I explained that the insurance goes from April to April and they agreed and I did recv a check but if I had not called up and asked the question they would not have sent me any explaination of benefits. Embrace also called up my vet's office to see when I made an appointment (we had a 15 day waiting period), they recd some information from the office, denied my claim and when I asked the vet about it he said that he had never heard of such a thing, and that his office didn't keep such records. I called Embrace and they said that because they felt that the appt was made a day before the waiting period ended it was a pre-existing condition. I would say that you would need to be very careful in choosing Embrace as your carrier.

Simply the best of the best
Embrace has handled us and our pets' needs with great care, concern and rapid response to every detail including reimbursement. Their employees take the attitude that your pet is theirs and touch base with you months after you need their service just to see how your pet is doing. Makes even a difficult situation bearable. I am an actual customer and our dog Spike's life was saved not only by the emergency vet hospital but by the wonderful employees at Embrace. Peace of mind they provide is PRICELESS. You can view our story on their site under real stories. I spread the word everywhere I am in contact with pet owners. Embrace even insured or senior dog when no other one would due to his age and pre-exisitng handicap...the premium was lower than most other companies' coverage for dogs under 5 years of age; our dog was 10 years at time of enrollment. Thank you doesn't seem adequat.

Don't act out of good faith, they DON'T
The only way to come out ahead with Embrace is to have a compete understanding of the policy play their game. We had our 8 week old puppy cleared on the ortho exam during the 2 week initial waiting period so we thought we had a healthy perfect puppy and that we were covered. 2 week before the 6 month waiting period for ortho injuries was completed my puppy hurt her knee. We should have waited to get her looked at. They denied the claim saying the ortho exam was done during the waiting period and because of that we had to wait 6 months. We acted in good faith, they did not. If she needs surgery down the road, it won't be covered. Good luck if you pet gets hurt or sick. I am sure they will figure out how not to cover it.

Fist time pet insurance owner
I've always had several pets and it seems that I always end up spending a fortune on them at some point. We spent $2500 on knee surgery for my poodle....$3000 for multiple eye surgeries and emergency vet visits for our Shar-pei. I kept saying that one of these days I'm going to buy pet insurance. After Maggie and Sugar passed away we eventually were ready for a new dog. We purchased a French Mastiff puppy and as most people know, the bigger the dog, the bigger the bills. I found Embrace on line and got Bailey set up with a policy and have made a claim on her shots and wellness exam. I was reimbursed within a week or so and was very happy with the experience. I just faxed in the claim form and invoices and had an email the next day saying it was being reviewed and then a follow up email saying a check would be coming in the mail. I feel this is going to be money well spent. I chose Embrace because they not only cover the normal expenses (shots, emergencies, etc. ) they cover hereditary diseases like hip displasia. If you do your research, you'll find in the small print that most other pet insurance carriers don't offer that. I think this is going to be a long and happy relationship with Embrace and I've already recommended them to several people who have pets. Thanks Embrace!!

Careful
As I thought this company cared about pets, one has to remember that it is still a business. I insured my less than a year old puppy and added hip dysplasia insurance. Upon bringing her to the vet for a regular checkup, my vet said that she was standing "odd". I did not think anythin of it, but my vet wanted to do an x-ray. I let him, only for him to come back letting me know she has hip dysplasia. I was shocked and did not even see this coming! I collected all the relevant forms and followed all the instructions from the Trupanion website. I faxed everything in, just claiming the x-ray and meds. Trupanion emailed me that day notifying that they refuse to pay. There reasoning: the condition was found within the first 30 days of my insurance -- I only had two more weeks to go. I called to see if any further coverage would be available after the 30 days and was told "no". I even explained that I did not even know and that it was not even my choice to get the x-ray done then! Trupanion still refused. I realize that it is in their policy but there has to be an exception in some cases. I could even have the vet write a letter explaining that it was his idea and not mine, but that would still do no good. Since Trupanion has done absolutely nothing for me, I asked for a refund for my coverage (2 months) and was refused on that as well. They just offered a $5 refund on the hip dysplasia. To everyone out there, be wary on your policy start date and allow your pet to suffer until the 30 days is up. This is was Trupanion forces you to do.
