Superb experience after emergency surgery

I was always very skeptical about pet insurance and thought it was a complete waste of money, but have been completely proven wrong based on the excellent experience I've had with Trupanion over the past few weeks. Our 11 month old German Shepherd became very ill and needed invasive emergency surgery on his intestines to correct an intussusception. It also required prescriptions, overnight stays, etc. As promised, Trupanion covered 90% of the costs and we received over $5000 back on the series of bills associated with his surgery. Trupanion was also extremely responsive – taking our calls on a Sunday evening with questions, sending emails with progress on our claim, and getting the check in the mail to us within a couple weeks. I would recommend (and have been!) Trupanion to any dog owner I know – they have saved us from considerable debt, provided a lot of peace of mind during a tough time, and enabled us to continue to spoil our dog rotten rather than pay his vet bills!

Not happy with Trupanion!!!

I researched pet insurance companies a year ago. I had narrowed it down to 2 pet insurance companies I liked. Trupanion and PetPlan. At the time, I chose Trupanion b/c everyone said there were no surprise insurance hikes from year to year. The others could go up depending on the pet's age, etc. I have now had Trupanion pet insurance for 1-year and I just found out my insurance rate is jumping next year by 39% and 41% for each dog for 2012 (I have 1 and 2-yr old swissy's). WTF? My 1-yr old swissy had torn her Superficial Digital Flexor Tendon a month ago...and the company "says" it is not b/c of my claim. (Surgery alone cost $1750). They say vet bills, in general, has gone up in our area over the last year. Weird. I am still paying the same prices at my vet this year as I did a year ago (same office fee, same exam fee, etc). I am extremely unhappy about this. The only way to keep my monthly payment the same is to change my deductible from $400 to $1000 per year. Might as well not pay for pet insurance and just save that monthly payment in an account. I am trying to switch to PetPlan, but now none of my dog's pre-exsisting conditions will not be covered. Total Crap!

unfair claim denial

I got ASPCA for my english bulldog right away when i got him, he was only about 10 weeks old. Well, while waiting for the insurance to kick in which is usually 30 days, he ended up having pneumonia, so he was coughing and vomiting, so I took hime to the vet, he ended up in the emergency hospital for a whole weekend which cost me an arm and a leg but I dealt with it since the insurance waiting period didn't kick in yet. So about a couple months after, he started vomiting again and after having an xray done, nothing showed, he needed to be hospitalized several times due to dehydration but I didn't really worry since i already had insurance. Well, after going back and forth to the vet, I decided to take him to a different vet where they did an ultrasound and found ulcers in his esophocus and stomach. very expensive procedure but again I thought I don't have to worry, ASPCA will cover 80% of all that mess. Well I was wrong. After he was cured, I was well over $5000 dollars from all the tests, hospitalization and all. I sent in all the claims and they denied it saying since he vomited before the insurance kicked in, they are calling it pre-existing. I got a letter from each vet stating that he was vomiting before due to pheumonia, this now is ulcers and it should be covered. But they denied everything. And whats worse is that I got the best plan that I pay over $60 a month. They said I can write a letter stating why ASPCA should pay but honestly, I highly doubt that will help. Any

If you have a pet, buy health insurance

I have small dog and I bought the insurance as a safety measure. I have used it and think it is great. It certainly helps with Vet bills. My dog doesn't have any major medical problems but having reimbursement for heartworm and flea medication is great. I would recommend pet insurance for everyone who has a pet.

Tests fully paid for

This claim was for tests after mu baby got sick and was in the ER for a few days. The tests cost over $1000 and I had my check within a week. These guys are great. They email you the progress and thank you for taking good care of my dog.
