Disappointed. My fault????

I read all the reviews. Healthy Paws is very much celebrated as one of the best. My experience was not the same through, I guess, maybe no fault of my own. I took my 1 year old dog to the vet in September of this year as she was having trouble with her left back knee locking. The first time I noticed her knee lock was around May of this year. It only happened occasionally, maybe once every 3 weeks. I had read via the internet that it was a hereditary ailment. Something you had to monitor. Then in September my dog couldn't settle her left hind leg down for long periods of time, so I took her to the vet. The vet diagnosed that my dog had a hereditary knee disorder (patella luxation) found in many dogs. Well, I paid my bill and later filed a claim with Healthy Paws. The refused to pay my claim or anything to do with the treatment of my dogs left hind leg. They were nice enough to tell me they would cover the right hind leg. Well, apparently when the vet was examining my dog and asking if I had observed any prior incidences, I had told her that I noticed her left leg begin to lock at times around the month of May. This was the same month I signed my dog up with Healthy Paws. FILING MY SEPTEMBER CLAIM: Healthy Paws requests that claims be accompanied by the vets records. This meant I had to drop off my dogs claim form at the vet office, and they in turn submit the information required for my reimbursement. Apparently, somewhere in the notes faxed over from the vets, it mentio

Microchip claims paid as wellness rewards benefit

I wasn't sure if the microchips my two cats received would be paid by Embrace Pet Insurance (I obviously didn't read through the coverage information), and was delighted that they were both covered! My cats received great care from my veterinarian and then I was rewarded by Embrace Pet Insurance for taking good care of my cats' health and well-being in the unlikely event that my cats would run out of the house and get lost. Thanks Embrace Pet Insurance!!!

Good luck finding nicer customer reps!

I had questions about submitting a claim, and I talked to Sharon (I asked for her name because she was so awesome!) and she helped me to understand the process and was great to talk to. Pets Best has always taken care of my high dollar claims. Good payouts!

Never switch to Trupanion

They will not cover hereditary and congenital conditions if your pet isn't insured with them from the day he was born. That being said I am sure they would use the 30 day excuse why not to pay even if he was insured from day 1.Our pug, when he was 12 weeks old, (April 2011), we went to the vet for a routine checkup and vaccinations. Our vet made a comment that pugs were prone to stenotic nares and put that in her report. The vet said that he was asymptomatic and nothing needed to be done. If it was an issue we would have had the surgery because he was insured with Pesecure at the time and had been since day 1 We switched our insurance over to Trupanion in May 2013. Biggest mistake of our lives August 2013 our pug developed severe breathing problems due to an elongated soft palate in his throat and requires surgery. They have denied the claim saying it was pre existing, due to the stenotic nares comment when he was 12 weeks old. If you are an owner of a brachycephalic dog I strongly suggest never switching to Trupanion if you are insured with another company. Even if your dog is not brachycephalic I wouldn't switch to them. I made that mistake.

Beware - for owners of epileptic dogs

I signed my mixed breed dog up with Healthy Paws in May 2012 after doing a lot of research(he was ~6 months old). Little did I know when I signed up that he would have his first seizure 9 months later and be diagnosed with idiopathic epilepsy. At first, I was very excited I had chosen Healthy Paws as they covered his blood tests, meds, and most of his ER visit. He has had a rough 7 months since his first seizure and I thought Healthy Paws actually cared about him. If you are a loving pet parent and have ever had to watch your dog have multiple seizures, you know how horrific it is.On the Healthy Paws website, they claim that the only thing they don't cover is pre-existing conditions. This is false. He is currently on an anti-convulsion medication that will likely shorten his lifespan and cause kidney/liver issues down the line since he had to start taking them at such a young age. I recently went to a licensed vet who practices holistically to try a new approach. She performed a consultation, which included acupuncture (which Healthy Paws did not cover even though they say they do) and was given a new medication that has effectively treated other dogs with epilepsy and enabled them to go off of their western meds, which have horrible side effects. Healthy Paws does not cover any of the holistic side of care, even though they make no such claims other then to not cover pre-existing conditions on their website. The medication that Healthy Paws covers will likely shorten the

Extremely Responsive and Timely!

After several days of vomiting, we took our Norfolk terrier to the veterinarian. They X-rayed her to make sure there was no obstruction, did blood work to make sure there was no infection, and gave us medication to settle her stomach. The diagnosis was unspecific gastritis, and within 24 hours, she was fine. We filed a claim with Trupanion as soon as we could. They kept in touch with us through the entire claims process, and paid on the claim very quickly. We have been told that most pet insurance is not worth the money paid for it, as most companies find ways to deny claims. Definitely not so in this case.
