Thank you Embrace!

My monthly premiums are so reasonable and my dogs have been very healthy. But with a surgery suddenly needed and a surgeon called in, I couldn't be more pleased with my coverage. They're paying 80% of the total. I did opt for prescription coverage also, and I am so glad I did. Medication was needed for the 1st week and a half.

Slow, but fair

Although I appreciate that this company has extensive coverage, the claims take too long to process.

Great Insurance Company For Your Furry Friend

We first noticed our Bulldog having excess tearing in his right eye with frequent blinking so we took him to the vet. His first diagnosis was conjunctivitis which turned out to be entropion. Trupanion processed our claims very quickly each time with no questions asked and we have nothing but positive thing to say about this company. Our dog's surgery cost almost $900 which Trupanion covered 90% of it! This is a great insurance provider and we highly recommend it!

No Longer the Best

When I obtained Best Pet Insurance they were top rated by Consumer Reports - if you do research you will see that their rating has dropped significantly. My first claim was handled quickly and efficiently and my reimbursement claim was deposited in my account within two working days. My shar pei suffers from chronic allergy related ear infections. Otis externa is one of the most frequent claims pet insurance companies process. One year later, she had another episode requiring repeated trips to the vet. Each time Pets Best claimed they did not receive the paperwork - although it is an online process, each time there was over a 10 day delay in reimbursing my account (they still advertise two days), each time they rejected part of my claim as a "grooming expense". I appealed it was was reimbursed two out of three times.I then received a letter that stated they would no longer cover conditions "preventable by grooming". After being a client for almost three years and having premiums deducted directly from my checking account I received another letter stating that they were now going to charge me another $3 a month for a payment processing fee.

So glad we have it!

Abcess of unknown origin developed literally overnight, containing approx. 75cc of pus. There was no option to treat with only antibiotics. Surgery with drains plus meds. Tupanion didn't hesitate to cover $843 of the $930 bill.

Love Healthy Paws!

We have only had healthy paws for a few months when one of our dogs, Ruby, got a mass cell tumor. I wasn't worried about the cost to help her because we have Healthy Paws. Our plan is the $100 deductible and they pay 90% after that. Between the aspiration of the mass, the surgery to remove it, the lab testing the mass, and medications, our bill was over $400. They quickly reimbursed us over $300. We got the check from Healthy Paws in the mail before our credit card bill with Rubys surgery on it even came in the mail. We are very happy with Healthy Paws. They even email me to see how Ruby was doing after her surgery!

Be aware of claimed preexisting conditions

We have had Pets Best for over a year and have been happy with it until recently. After 2 claims were denied (one for ear infection and one for a hotspot), I called Pets Best to find out what's going on. Turned out that 8 months ago I took my dog to the vet to have his anal glands expressed as he was licking it excessively (no surprise there). Now I understand that anal glands were not covered and I was fine with that, however, what came out of this specific claim was that Pets Best determined that because my dog was licking his anal glands and was prescribed a cream to stop the irritation (or itching) by the vet, he was deemed to have "allergies" which Pets Best consider as a "preexisting condition". My dog has NEVER been treated for allergies ever by anyone or showed signs of allergies and now they are claiming ear infection, hotspots are all stemmed from allergies. I'm a healthcare provider myself, and I've never diagnosed a patient with an irritation on his arm as you-are-doomed-forever-allergies and just because a patient had bronchitis does not mean he has asthma, etc. I think it's unethical for them to claim all of these issues are related to allergies. The vet was visited for anal sacculitis for heaven's sake.
