Good bet

I have had great experience with Trupanion. They paid the claim promptly and kept me informed of where they were in the process.

Pet Insurance is a MUST

I have long since wondered why we are so willing to insure ourselves and our 2 legged children, but not our 4 legged children. Working in the pet industry for 30 years, and coming from a country where we do not pay for our medical expenses, yet we do insure our pets, it is a no brainer to me. Trupanion offer 30 days free (in the truest sense of no credit card required etc) coverage, which is beyond invaluable. I know for even me working in this industry my pets do not go uninsured and Trupanion has made that a much easier process than Pet Plan, a company I have used in the past. My claims are paid quickly and directly to the clinic. My veterinarian is willing to work with me on paying as I have insurance. Our kitten has a $0 deductible as she was insured from 6 weeks old. Add that to the wellness program she has with TotalBond, and everything is taken care of - all I have to find is the 10% as the exam fees are all included in the wellness plan. Huge sigh of relief for me each time one of them is sick.

The Worst!

I've had a policy since 2011, maybe longer. The company changes their adjusting policies on a whim. They pay one thing one claim and won't the next. Recently, I filed a claim where my dog was hospitalized for eating a toy. Not only has it taken almost a month for the claim to be processed, but there was a particular line item in the invoice that reads 'hosp/doggy day care". The charge was denied, not only by a novice adjuster, but per the conversation with Pets Best customer service agent, a manager had reviewed it. The invoice has $600 of legit charges associated with foreign body ingestion / constipation. The clinic charges the same for hospitalization as it does for doggy day care. Even though the line item clearly indicates that the charge may be associated with hospitalization, and the other supportive charges that were present on the invoice- the company denied the charge. Now I have to wait for a review, though it's almost been a month. This company is terrible. I would never recommend them. Save yourself a bunch of time and shop elsewhere!!!!

Service

We have 2 golden retrievers that are almost 8 years old. We have had them covered through Trupanion since we got them as pups and have been very satisfied with the service. We are always recommending the company to new pet owners.

Great Coverage

I'm very happy with Healthy Paws. Our dog needed some oral surgery and had a mass on her back. I wasn't sure it was going to be covered but it was, saving me almost $1000. Since then I've encouraged my friends to join and several have.

prompt service

I took my dog to the E.R. after he let out a howl when I tried to pick him up. They gave him pain meds and anti-inflammatory. The next day I took him to his regular vet who did an exam and x-rays. I sent in two separate claims so that may have caused some confusion, however, I am most pleased with the prompt turn-around time and the fairness of the claim. I would also suggest you are very careful in entering information if you choose to use direct deposit. I would like to verify that I entered my account no. correctly. While I can access the routing no., I have been told by customer service, there is no way to access or verify your account no. I just have my fingers crossed that I didn't make any typos. Although I'm sure I didn't, not being able to confirm such information is a bit unsettling.
