Claim process

Speed of claim reconciliation has been amazing. The ease of submitting our claim was straightforward. When dealing with a dog who is sick, this makes all the difference to a worried family.

Healthy Paws Pet Insurance DON'T DO IT!

I’m writing this review so no one else has the same experience I did with Healthy Paws Pet Insurance. I insured my cat in December 2020 and faithfully maintained coverage for over five years without ever filing a claim. In January 2026, my cat suddenly became very ill. I submitted two claims—one from my regular veterinarian and one from the emergency hospital, where we ultimately tried everything to save his life. Sadly, my cat had to be put down. While Healthy Paws did pay the emergency hospital bill, they denied the much smaller vet bill, claiming it fell under a “waiting period.” Their stated waiting period is six months, which had long passed since I had continuous coverage since 2020. Their reasoning was that they had no prior vet records on file, so they treated this as if the waiting period still applied. This makes no sense and feels incredibly misleading. A waiting period should be based on when coverage begins—not whether or not you’ve previously submitted a claim or provided records years later. For comparison, I also have four dogs insured through Trupanion, and their waiting periods are clearly defined and based strictly on policy start dates—not claim history. After paying premiums for years, to have a valid claim denied under these circumstances is extremely frustrating and, in my opinion, unacceptable. I would strongly caution anyone considering pet insurance to look carefully at other, more transparent and reputable companies before choosing Healthy Paws. ⸻ I

Best insurance after extensive research

I received a good explanation from one of their reps and I liked that I could apportion the extra Wellness package so we can get reimbursed partially on our dog's spaying and save some for dental or other work. There was no wait for coverage, We signed up Saturday, went into effect on Monday and our little "Gracie" had spay surgery on Tuesday. Like this insurance.

Do Not Trust!!!

I recently went through one of the most terrifying and stressful situations and had the misfortune of having Pets Best as my insurance company. First, they took well over a month to even confirm if they would approve or deny my claim. Which, in the instance of finding out my dog had cancer I did not have the luxury of waiting. I needed to move quickly on to the next steps of seeing specialists and get a treatment plan going. I have insurance to be responsible and elevate these stressful situations, but they did nothing but add to them. I was meeting with specialist and going over plans all with the added stress of wondering if this will be approved or denied. I finally find out that I was denied bases on "pre-existing condition". How can this be a pre-existing condition if he has never had cancer, and he has never been seen for "cancer like symptoms"?! Then when you call to speak with someone about the claim they give you no information other than you can appeal. I have never dealt with an insurance company that was so inefficient and untrustworthy. My previous insurance was quick, efficient, and easy to deal with. I would have stayed with them if they did not discontinue my plan in my state. DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY!!!

felt rushed and a bit uncomfortable…

felt rushed and a bit uncomfortable with asking many questions as the rep knew I was calling around to other insurance company for coverage. I am in sales myself and I do not think the rep did a good job of providing great service. The only reason I am with you all as a provider is because I get a discount with my job.
