Great, fast service on Trupanion Claims
The claim process was simple and the service person was fantastic. The payment came sooner than I expected! The only reason I ranked it a "9" rather than a full "10" was that I didn't realize that the doctor's visit was not covered. But, I am very glad to have Trupanion!

I've always had a problem with the way that Trupanion defines pre-existing conditions.
I've always had a problem with the way that Trupanion defines pre-existing conditions. I've had to appeal to have my dog's dental extractions covered twice because she had mild dental disease prior to her policy starting. I think that this feels like a blanket to cover Trupanion for never having to cover any dental claims. Most dogs have dental disease in the form of gingivitis or tartar accumulation. That is not always indicative of what causes extractions to be warranted. In this case, my dog had resorptive lesions -- of which the cause is unknown. Another instance was with a pet I had years ago who was hospitalized for renal failure. His claim was denied because of 1 high kidney value prior to his policy. The doctor hadn't even diagnosed him with kidney disease at that time and for all Trupanion knew, it could have been the result of dehydration. Whomever is adjusting these claims needs to get their facts straight. This behaviour really muddies the image that Trupanion tries to paint where "owners can rest easy by following their DVM's instructions". If you are going to nitpick over blood results and be extremely vague with general conditions that are pre-existing, I really think that my money towards premiums would be best put in a pet savings account. I hate saying this, but I really don't feel like this plan is worth it to my dogs without chronic conditions anymore.
