Not the best pet insurance. Disappointed.
I read this was the best pet insurance but honesty it hasn’t lived up to the other reviews. The first claim takes months to process to establish a history. I would call to see what the delay was with reimbursement and was on hold for 50 min before hanging up. Called again the next day and had to wait 45 min.

Fantastic, prompt service, great coverage
Healthy Paws is the best! My 3-year old dachsund mix (probably terrier), Lyle, ruptured a disc and had severe spinal trauma a little over one month ago. Though the injury is typical of dachshunds (long backs, short legs, fearless jumpers), she was young to have it happen. It paralyzed her from the waist down. She had surgery that, with the hospital stay and all the other associated expenses, cost ca. $15,000. Healthy Paws paid 80% of it, and did so within days of my submitting the claim. For the last three weeks, she has had rehab 3x a week. Each visit costs $220, and, again, Healthy Paws has paid 80% of it (and will continue to do so as long as Lyle needs it). Their customer service representatives are super friendly, helpful and kind, and their claims department patiently answers all questions and gets reimbursements to us in a timely fashion. All that is so important when you have a beloved pet in pain and in need of intense care and you are emotional and trying to sort through the complexities of pet care and insurance. Lyle has gotten stronger since beginning her therapy, and though paralyzed from the waist down with no control over her legs (or bladder or bowels) when it started, can now stand on her own and even stand up. The therapist is very hopeful that she will walk again! We're so grateful to Healthy Paws, because we never could've afforded the entire cost of either the surgery or the therapy, and would have had to let her go. Now, thanks to Healthy Paws (and marvelous veterinary care and the determination of our fierce dachshund who won't give up), chances are good that she'll regain control of her back legs and walk again. We owe them an enormous debt of gratitude.

Healthy Paws and its wonderful service
I am so happy that we got Healthy Paws pet insurance when our dog, Lyle, came into our lives a couple of years ago. She is a healthy 3-year old dachshund mix (probably terrier) that a little over a month ago ruptured a disc and consequently suffered severe spinal trauma that resulted in paralysis from the waist down. She had surgery two days after the trauma; together with the hospital stay, medications and other various expenses, it cost ca. $15,000. Healthy Paws not only paid 80% of that, but since then has reimbursed us for 80% of her (fairly expensive) rehabilitation. She sees a specialist in canine rehab 3x a week, who does massage therapy, exercises, acupuncture, laser therapy, vibration therapy and other assorted things at the cost of $220/session. It is worth every penny, but we in no way could’ve afforded Lyle’s surgery or rehab costs on our own and would’ve had to let her go. Now, a little more than one month after the surgery, Lyle has gone from being completely paralyzed from the waist down with no control over her rear legs, her bowels, or her bladder to being able to stand on her own and even to standing up on her own. The prognosis for her walking again is good! We have found the customer service representatives at Healthy Paws incredibly friendly, empathetic and helpful, and those in the Claims Department patient, responsive, and prompt in their reimbursements. All this is so important when one’s pet is in pain and you are trying to move as quickly as possible to get it the care it needs to improve chances of recovery. We owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to Healthy Paws, as well as to the marvelous veterinarians Lyle has had and to Lyle herself, who is incredibly tenacious, stubborn and determined (sound familiar all you dachshund owners?). If any dog can walk after such a trauma, it will be Lyle, but only with the help of Healthy Paws and her caregivers.

I have had insurance with Embrace for approximately eight years for my English Mastiff and am beyond happy with the service I have received. Claims are reviewed and completed quickly. Communication is very good and the staff is great!

I am disappointed that the rate went up…
I am disappointed that the rate went up the past 2 years and now my deductible is higher. If it increases again I will need to cancel my policy due to being on a fixed income as I am disabled.

Love it
I have only had the insurance a few months, as my puppy is 6 months old. Trupanion has covered a good amount of my claims and they have been very prompt with payments. The only negative I have is that at my first visit to the vet, I mentioned several things to the vet that are typical for puppies (she was only 11 weeks old and I had not had her very long). (eating, drinking too fast, scratching) From the vet's notes, Trupanion indicated allergies and digestive issues would not be covered, as they were pre-existing conditions. These were not "conditions" and my pup was never diagnosed with anything as a result of my just asking new doggie mom questions to my vet. So I think it is unfair to indicate certain things would not be covered without a formal diagnosis. However, there was an ear infection that they denied (stating this was related to allergies and was a pre-existing condition) and I appealed it, and with clarification from my vet that there was no diagnosis of allergies, Trupanian ended up paying the claim. I was grateful but feel that it was a hassle having to appeal and ear infection in a puppy. Overall though, I have been happy with the insurance. I would definitely recommend it.
