Unethical claims processing business practice
I've been a customer of Embrace since 2018. I have two pets covered, my 2 year-old Belgian Malinois dog and my 1 year-old Maine Coon cat. My experience has been that I have to review the explanation of benefits when Embrace processes claims and here's why: 1. I processed a $819.12 claim for my cat's gingivitis with gingivectomy and dental extractions. Because I have the $650 wellness rewards, what the claims adjustor did was use up all my wellness rewards and the rest she covered under the dental illness. The problem with that is that it effectively takes away my wellness rewards that I use for the cat's grooming, shots, and other annual veterinary visits instead of reducing the $1,000 a year dental illness coverage. So, I lose my wellness rewards (which is not really free as it is a reimbursement plan that's paid in full over a 12-month policy term; in other words, you pay dollar for dollar for this "benefit."). Put a different way, the way the claim was processed, actually benefits Embrace as they did not have to cover the claim under the additional and completely separate coverage of dental illness and they no longer have to reimburse actual wellness rewards claims because they have been exhausted. They told me they do this as a general guideline to maximize the reimbursement for the customer, but in reality this is false advertisement and a blatantly unethical business practice because this doesn't really do the customer any favors. When I called them out on this, they re-processed my claim, but instead of breaking out 21 line items in the $819.12 invoice, they reduced it to 10 and processed it as a $446.50 claim. I've requested another review of this claim, but decided to write this before getting a response from them about my last request as it is clear to me that this isn't a mistake; it is an attempt to save costs at my expense. 2. I processed a $1,699.25 pre-certification for my dog for a broken tooth and while the pre-certification covered the claim, it broke things out as follows: $106.00 from wellness rewards to cover the post procedural dental cleaning/polishing; $103.00 from dental illness to cover the required anesthesia for the procedure; and the rest from the accident coverage. Now, this is an accidental complex upper canine fracture and it is not appropriate to mix/match coverage as anything included in the estimate should be covered under the accident coverage. Granted, this is a pre-certification from an estimate and not an actual processed claim, but the trend is consistent with point number one above. On a positive note, they do provide excellent and courteous customer service.

Pet insurance Rip off
My pet had ONE illness but Trupanion broke it down to three submissions and further subdivided each submission into illness categories. Then Trupanion applied the deductible to each sub category. So instead of one deductible amount there were several full amount deductibles. Needless to say the refund was paltry. Trupanion asks if I will recommend their company to friends and family—definite no. Put the monthly premium aside and use it for pet expenses, pocket the difference and avoid the frustration. I will cancel my policy.

Great Pet Insurance
I love Trupanion. You take a photo of the invoice from the vet and upload on their site-very simple- and they take care of the rest. I just got $2100 back on a $2300 bill. And the money goes directly into my checking account. So worth the reasonable monthly payments.

They ultimately approved all my claims…
They ultimately approved all my claims without questions, it just took nearly a month. Additionally their customer service on the phone need attention, the two times I called I was on hold for over an hour. Otherwise no complaints and I’m glad they covered my dogs medical expenses

so pleased that I am insured with trupanion
When I rescued my dog I knew I should purchase insurance. I took the advice of my vet ( I have know for many years and trust) and went with trupanion. I recently had to file a claim. It was handled so quickly. In addition, they added the nicest note for my little dog in their e-mail! Their website is easy to use. I also had reason to call them and found the staff to be helpful and personable. I also feel that their rates are reasonable. It is really important to have insurance and I feel trupanion is a good company to go with.

I have had Healthy Paw for my Boxer…
I have had Healthy Paw for my Boxer since he was a puppy. I watched it go up slightly each year and was okay with that. I had an auto payment connected to my credit card. I noticed that my payment went from $48.00 to 72.50 this month. I called up and spoke with customer service saying this has to be a mistake. I was told I should have received an email, which I did not letting me know why it went up. Then the person said well here is the reason why - Too many people have used the insurance, so we had to raise it (in 5.5 years I have never used it for my Boxer) and you know you dog is getting older. So the moral of the story is keep paying never use it and get your rate increased approx. 45% in one month and so far I have payed $4,070.00, never used the plan and I have to pay this much more each month. I will actively look for a new insurance since they don't value a steady customer who pays their bill and does not use the in a insurance frivolous manner. I would not recommend this insurance at this time, or maybe ever again unless this is changed.
