Newer Policies Seem to Cover Less despite Cost
We've insured at least the last 6 of our German Shepherds and one golden retriever with Pets Best. We always have 2-3 GSDs at one time. No issues with making claims or claim explanations. My question now is that it seems that less is covered or paid than in the earlier policies. In fact I couldn't buy the same policy for the two most recent GSDs as the policies I had in the past. However, for 3 of the 6 dogs, each had a one-time significant medical issue and what Pets Best covered for those paid for the policy premium for about 4-5 years. Those policies were older than the current 3 policies we hold. I believe our dogs are on the high end of the premium scale based on breed. I'd rather not have to use it for significant medical issues but it certainly helped that with a significant medical bill. I'm tracking more closely as to coverage of routine care considering deductibles and copays to decide about a policy at all in the future. Pets Best has been fine otherwise.

Puppy's Pre-Existing Conditions - All Claims Denied
Our puppy had gastroenteritis when he was a few months old. Upon the vet's recommendation we decided to get medical coverage for him. Now at just over a year and a half old, he ate something that upset his stomach. We took him to the vet to make sure he didn't have an infection as he was vomiting and had diarrhea. Trupanion denied our vet claim due to the puppy's pre-existing condition, and stated that our pup had signs of this condition before we enrolled. They added all future claims of the pup throwing up and having diarrhea would be denied.

My first claim in almost 7 years with this policy made me a true believer in the wisdom of carrying pet insurance.
I have carried insurance for almost 7 years on my cats without ever having the need to use it and kept wondering if it was worth it. One emergency surgery, totally unexpected and I can emphatically say it is so worth it. I was blown away by the ease of filing a claim and how complete the coverage was. Thank you Trupanion. I would recommend this insurance to everyone. Insure your pets early and maintain the coverage and you will never suffer huge vet bills again.

Pre-Existing Conditions Used Too Often!
I've been with Trupanion for a few years now and own two dogs. Our first dog we adopted in April 2018, 4 months old was seen by our veterinarian in May 2018. He received vaccines and was diagnosed with an ear infection. On 10/29/20, the same dog had to go in for an allergy issue with his feet. First allergy issue since his adoption in April 2018. I submitted the invoice to Trupanion and it was denied. Why? I was told that the dog had an ear infection in May 2018, therefore, it was being assumed by Trupanion that he suffered from a pre-existing allergy condition. My opinion is that this company searches and searches for anything they can quantify as a pre-existing condition in order not to pay out a claim. I'm seriously thinking of moving to another company. At $104.00 a month for two dogs and the first claim filed is denied tells me that they want your money every month but don't pay out claims. They look for "any" reason not to pay. It's been a waste of our monies every month.

We wanted to use ASPCA health insurance because we are gold members since we donate every month and thought why not use them to insure our pet but ever since we started it’s been like we don’t even have insurance. We get reimbursed little to nothing back because they claim nothing is covered under our policy and it’s almost impossible to get someone on the phone even pre-COVID to dispute these claims once they are processed which takes over a month to begin with. If you have to take your pet to the vet frequently or have pre-existing conditions (and even if you don’t they’ll claim you do) I would find another insurance.
