Trupanion has been great
Trupanion has been great! Our dog suffered serious health issues that were not life threatening with correct treatment. Treatment was VERY expensive but thankfully we had Trupanion. Once we met our deductible they continue to promptly pay us after we pay for his latest treatment - this has been going on since 2018! All of our pets now have their own Trupanion insurance

Trupanion has to be the best pet insurance I’ve ever had. They really have the best customer service too. I know this might sound like a typical review but they saved my girlfriend and I’s butts after our shiba inu had to go to the hospital.

Happy we bought insurance
Our girl Emmy was not peeing, which also effected her bowels. Took her to emergency vet clinic, as it was a Saturday and her regular vet was not able to see her. I turned in claim and feel Pets Best was fair and timely enough for us.

Trupanion came thru for us in the way I wish all insurance companies would.
Our dog was diagnosed with a malignant tumor. The holistic vet recommended surgery and supplements for recovery and making the immune system stronger. It was expensive and that is a concern for us, but Trupanion made it easy to go ahead and do the procedure and follow up with the care he will need. I used their pre-approval method so I knew in advance what they would pay for. We were worried about our dog's health and luckily not about the finances. I have heard how hard it is for people who have difficult diagnosis and I wish human health insurance was as good as Trupanion is for our pet.

I ended up paying about $2200 for…
I ended up paying about $2200 for dental extraction and cleaning for my older dog. After paying about $1200 in premiums I will only receive $150 back. That means that I ended up paying $3400 in total for the vet bill and pet insurance and will receive only $150 back. What I have found out after doing extensive research on pet insurance, is that its not worth it. Many insurances don't cover lab fees, x-rays or medications so when you end up paying a large bill you think you are going to get 80% back. That's not the case, make sure to look at what the insurance covers and their policy on preexisting condition. They will find any excuse to not cover majority of the cost, but what can you do? You already have to pay the full cost up front! and then you have to wait and see if some of it will be reimbursed?? If I had done better research I would have started a savings account where I could have put the same amount as the monthly premium into that account and made sure to have a credit card that I could use to cover the cost. I ended up paying an extra $1100 when I could have saved that money to pay towards my dog's dental procedure! They made an almost 100% profit. Pet insurance is definitely a scam. Much worse than having car insurance, only that with this you have a choice on whether to have it or not. Save your money and put it into a savings account for your pet!
