VPI not all cracked up to be

I purchased VPI insurance when I first got my new purebred yorkshire terrier Sammy. In 2003 pet insurance was hard to find. I used them for about the first three years of his life. I found their policy to be complicated and the payouts were rare. I would not recommend VPI as an option for pet insurance. You end up paying most of the costs of annual exams, wellness visits and minor injuries yourself. At least that was my experience.

Best Pet Insurance Carrier

I have tried all the carriers including VPI, Pet Plan, Pet's Best and then finally I found the BEST in ASPCA Pet Insurance. All of the others covered very little but had consistently high premiums for my now almost 13 year old Purebred Yorkshire Terrier. I have their Level 4 with Adv Wellness protection that I started when he as about to turn 10. One incredible aspect is that they will insure dogs over 10 years old out of the gate. I am so grateful I changed insurers and would never leave ASPCA. Sammy got pancreatitis in February from eating cheap store bought Beneful. I had just gotten out of the hospital myself and he was throwing up everything he ate. I was so scared that I would lose him. I am in a wheelchair and he has been with me since an accident in 2002. He was hospitalized for 2.5 days. Since I am also a Care Credit Card Holder I did not have to worry about making a financial decision to take care of him. No matter the cost. He was well in about 2 weeks and now I make all of his food myself. He is happy, healthy and when I received the reimbursement for his $3500 bill I was ecstatic. ASPCA paid 90% of the charges. I love my ASPCA insurance and my Care Credit Card!! I highly recommend you ignore the rest and check out ASPCA esp if you have an older animal. The customer service is superb, premium options are flexible and claim reimbursement is fast.

LOVE this Company! Long time customer-6 Pet Owner

Recently posted this on my Facebook Page: Love being with http://petshealthplan.com/. Just got notified my claim for Luna's stitches got processed...only 1.5 week turn around & they are going to direct deposit in my account! Getting $104.74 back off of the $187.74 bill...would have been more, but we hadn't met the $100 deductible for the year yet. Crazy awesome customer service any time I've had to call and they give a multi-pet discount. Been with them for over 10 yrs back when they were the only pet insurer I could find...there's more out there now, but I haven't seen anything to entice me away from this company! UPDATE since post: The next day Hartville called us to make sure Luna was doing well & to let me know my claim was processed. They really have customer service down! Their website is recently updated where I can submit & view progress of my claim online! LOVE it! Thank you! Thank you!

Very Fast

Sometimes you will see a brochure for a Pet service that makes all kinds of promises. We bought the insurance from Trupanion several years ago, and were quite pleased that they performed as they stated in fact, they were perfect in every way.At each and every turn too, they kept us posted about the status/progress of our claim.

Broken tooth

Who knew a broken tooth would cost $1900? Luckily we have pet insurance. Without Healthy Paws, we would've been in a world of hurt. We are extremely pleased we have signed up for this program and Mazie bear enjoys excellent health care coverage. Also, unlike some providers, healthy pause reimbursed us at a very reasonable rate.

Trupanion...Only the Best for Your Best Friend

We are so happy we purchased Trupanion for our boy Buster, almost 10, when he was a pup and for our new puppy Jaxon. Over the years, we have had claims for TPLO surgery for a torn ACL and more recently for liver disease. It is a comfort knowing you can provide the best care for your best friend without having to worry about cost. Claims are processed very quickly and staff are very professional and kind. Thank you Trupanion!

Exceptional claims service.

Although not the least expensive of available options, the ease of submitting claims and the speed with which they are processed is quite outstanding. Phone support is also efficient, friendly and "above and beyond". What is disappointing, however, is the fact that the examination fee is NOT covered. This is often at least 50% of the cost of a typical visit, so in reality, the deductible for each visit is the cost of the examination PLUS the policy deductible amounts per condition and for each year. In reality, pet insurance is really for major or catastrophic types of medical claims. Think of it in that way. I doubt that very few if any people actually recover the premiums they have paid over the average lifespan of a pet from the claim payments you receive from the insurer. If you have the discipline to take the $100 per month in premiums and put it away in a savings account, you will most certainly be money ahead. It would also allow you to pay for one or two catastrophic type of injury or illness claims along the way. The only time it would be a net loss is if you have the misfortune of having a serious injury or illness early on in the pets life.
