Best insurance EVER!!!
I am not one to write review, however, this is the 4th claim I have place, and I could not be happier. Most people think all pet insurance is the same, and maybe to a certain extent it is. What sets this company apart from the rest is how committed they are to giving back to homeless animals. This company has been committed since they began. I have recommended them to all my friends and relatives and they could not be happier

It was a breeze and they are very friendly and customer service oriented.
So far so good. We picked up our new puppy and during her first vet visit they detected an issue with her heart. Our breeder had provided 30 days of trupanion for free so we had a cardiologist evaluate her and trupanion covered the tests they did on her. We decided to continue our coverage in case any further issues arise and because trupanion was available, easy to deal with and within a day of submitting the bill we paid $$ was deposited into our bank account. It was a breeze and they are very friendly and customer service oriented.

There Are Better Insurances Out There
Honestly, not great insurance. During initial enrollment you’re told there’s virtually nothing that isn’t covered, and then it turns out later on that many conditions and situations are, in fact, excluded from the policy. For example, the policy only covers a maximum of two months’ worth of prescription food, even if your animal is diagnosed with a chronic digestive condition. Additionally, proactive medications like Sentinel Spectrum are not covered. Also, claims processing is astoundingly slow, so you always wind up paying the entire vet bill out of pocket and then waiting and arguing with Trupanion to cover and/reimburse you on the back end. Also, Trupanion has a horrible habit of refusing to cover new claims under an original diagnosis/condition. For example, if your pet has a chronic skin problem, Trupanion will not consider each vet visit for this lengthy, well-documented problem as the same issue, but rather, a brand new problem each time. So you will basically perpetually pay out of pocket for the ongoing problem. The only reason why I keep the policy at this point is just in case an immense catastrophe happens with my pet, and even then I expect I’ll have to pay the vet bill in full and argue with Trupanion’s claims department for appropriate, timely reimbursement afterwards.

Beware: Pricing will skyrocket over the years
The price quoted is not constant! We are now paying 300% our original quote and have had zero claims. We have been with Trupanion now for 11 years. We got the most basic package at the time for $35/month, due to us having a Vet in the family that can do check ups and small procedures. I assumed since we started this as a puppy the rate would be constant, similar to other insurances. However, after a year or two it started shooting up. We are now paying $106/month!!! I phoned and they said there was no mistake made, but they could not provide a good reason for the 300% increase. We have not had a single claim. They told us it's probably because we moved... but we moved about 6 blocks away from when this plan started. At this point my dog is old and I would be crazy to cancel now. Unfortunately, Trupanion is aware of this and is taking full advantage. I'm sure I've paid close to $10k into this plan over the years. I would say there is a big lesson to be learned here. Next time I will just put money aside every month instead of being gouged by Trupanion.

Easy and reliable
Healthy Paws makes pet health insurance easy! You simply take a photo of the receipt on the app and submit. Claims are handled quickly. After a recent emergency surgery Healthy Paws not only covered the bill entirely, but also wrote to check in on my dog.

I found the site very easy to navigate and the response to get a quote was immediate. I also liked the comparison chart. I have also received a follow-up call welcoming me as well as an email with pertinent details. I appreciate all the customer service details.

Had to appeal but they came through
They denied my initial claim based on diarrhea being an existing condition which was pretty annoying (since that's a symptom for many things). I had taken my puppy to the vet the first weekend I had him for diarrhea likely caused by the stress of leaving his mom and littermates. Anyhow, my second claim did have diarrhea as a reason I went in but the cause we something completely different and life-threatening. So I was annoyed they denied my claim outright initally—it was jarring. But after my vet followed up with a more detailed explanation of the situation Trupanion paid the claim. So I'm happy that they paid and the review process wasn't especially difficult or time-consuming. It's a bit of a drag I had to appeal though. But, again, ultimately they came through. And the amount paid wasn't trivial.

It was quick and easy to sign up for pet Insurance. The rates are very reasonable, and its nice that you can choose full coverage or accident only. The web-site was very user friendly.

Don’t waste your money
I’ve never written a bad review, but I had to with this one. They called an ear infection a “pre existing condition” and wouldn’t even allow it to go to deductible. Don’t waste your money on this. Think I’m going to instead just set aside my monthly payment to savings vs pay a company who won’t reimburse my pet medical bills
