DO NOT BUY A POLICY WITH TRUPANION
I enrolled with Trupanion in April 2021, paying approx. $150 for enrollment and the first month's premium. After a 30 day waiting period, during which I received no coverage, I was charged the 2nd month's premium. Approx. 2 weeks later (a total 6 weeks after enrollment and after paying a total of $250), they notified me to visit the website for a list of all the exclusions from coverage under the policy. The list of conditions excluded was 2 pages long and excluded virtually everything. I cancelled the policy and I expected a full refund (with the exception of the approx $50 enrollment fee). What I got was a $6.31 credit. So they charged me approx $240 for no effective coverage and they took 6 weeks to notify me of the exclusions from coverage. Today after some research I discovered that Trupanion has been the subject of several lawsuits and has been fined almost $500,000 by the Attorneys General of at least 2 states for dishonest business practices. I am going to lodge a complaint with the Florida Department of Consumer Affairs in Tallahassee. Do yourself a favor and don't wait until its too late. I don't usually review companies that I deal with. I don't usually need to and if I have a problem, the company always does the right thing. In conversations with Trupanion's customer service (and I use the term loosely), they made it clear that they do not care about doing the right thing. Don't enroll in Trupanion. #Trupanion #Pet_insurance #Pets #Vets

My GSD puppy and his elbow dysplasia
At the young age of only 8 months old, Hendrix our GSD was diagnosed with elbow dysplasia. I was just super happy I had Trupanion there to help with these costs. I don’t know what I would have done without them and they continue to help with all of his post surgery costs. Needless to say, it’s just one less worry off of my mind! Thank you trupanion and to the wonderful team over the phone. I have never met such a caring and companionate set of people ever! You guys are the best! True heroes!

Unethical Business Practices
People should be aware of the way Embrace does business. Here is some context: My dog is 6ish- I got insurance for her about 4 years ago. She has no preexisting conditions, is not on any medication, and I have never filed a claim with Embrace. The premium for the first year of coverage was low (for my dog, it was $33 for the year). The second year it went up 30% to $43/month. The third year (2020) , it went up 95%. Yep, you read that right. My new premium was $85 a month- my reimbursement rate was 80% and my deductible was $750 with a max payout of $10k. The company sent out a letter claiming that they apologized for such a large increase in premiums, that they had their book of business reviewed by actuaries and needed to make adjustments. (I would be willing to bet that a lot of other people have received this letter... but at different times, not just 2020- some 2 year customers problably got theirs this year) I increased my deductible and lowered my reimbursement rate so I could afford the premium which I got down to $63 a month. This year, they have increased my premium again 24%, up to $78.30. I cannot make my deductible any higher, but I did lower my reimbursement rate, once again to get it back down to $62.00 a month. If I got to the Embrace website and request a quote as a new customer, I get a quote of $33 a month. The same rate I had as a first year customer... strange. The company blames everything but themselves when you complain about the premiums: the state you live in, how the Department Insurance doesn't set caps, etc. They know what they're doing is shady. I really hope people will stay away from Embrace. If this review deters just ONE person from buying a policy with them, I consider taking the time to write this, a win.

Truly, A Life-Saver!
I signed Jesse up for health insurance with Trupanion the day I brought him home at eight weeks of age - thinking, at the time, of possible costly end-of-life expenses. Three years later, while we were wintering in Tucson, AZ, he contracted Valley Fever and almost died. Since then he has been on an antifungal medication which is quite expensive. He is now eight years old and it's keeping him alive and healthy. While on these meds he has no symptoms at all and is a happy, loving pup! Trupanion pays my claim for his meds each month with no questions asked. Without my Trupanion insurance, Jesse would be dead because I could not afford to pay for the anti-fungal (over $500) every month for the rest of his life. I am so grateful!

A fortuitous decision to go with Healthy Paws Pet Insurance…
We purchased Healthy Paws Pet Insurance in 2013 when our two Shiloh Shepherds, Blue Heeler Hybrid, and Ocicat were pups and young cats as we had lost the year before our sweet Sarabelle to osteosarcoma and were well aware of the costs of treatment for severe illnesses and conditions. It was truly a fortuitous decision. Though Little Boy, our Ocicat passed away uneventfully, and our Heeler continuous to be her irascible self, our two littermate Shiloh brothers had/have structural (wobblers) and health conditions (IBD) that require extensive testing and treatment. Healthy Paws came through for us for both of our boys. Though we remained judicious in our consideration of testing and treatment,, knowing that Healthy Paws would be there to financially support our decisions made a big difference to us and our boys. Their compassionate processing of our claims for the loss of one of our boys while did not lessen the pain, it gave us financial peace of mind. And our remaining boy is looking healthy and we look forward to several more years with him. We are so fortunate that we have Healthy Paws behind us. Their staff is compassionate and professional, and claim processing quick. Really, thank you, Healthy Paws.

Trupanion pet insurance is no joke!
Our not quite 4 year old Cavachon developed an unusual, debilitating illness. This involved multiple veterinary visits and diagnostic tests. She was subsequently admitted to the hospital for emergency treatment. Needless to say this was expensive. I can’t emphasize enough how grateful we were to have Trupanion insurance! I had called to cancel it in the fall, but the representative better explained their policy, raised the deductible, and we kept it. Trupanion has been easy to work with (online) and prompt in responding. This has allowed our fur baby more time for recovery from her illness. If someone says pet insurance is a joke, I’d recommend Trupanion to them.
