Healthy Paws is amazing!
Never having purchased pet insurance before when we got our puppies we decided this time around that we should get insurance... but I didnt know where to go and decided on healthy paws after an internet search reading reviews like this. I was thinking insurance would help us with hard decisions when they were older, decisions we had to make with our other dog years ago, however, our one and a half year old just needed major surgery and this being the first time ever submitting a claim for $7000 I was nervous that I had picked correctly. It turned out that Healthy Paws was amazing, they helped me through the process, had an easy web portal to submit the claim and medical records and I received my payment quickly through direct deposit. Life saver!! Thank you Healthy Paws!!

I adopted a puppy that came with 1 free month of Trupanion. I thought ‘grey! I’ll sign up right away!’ Nope. I called before taking my puppy to his first appointment and was told I couldn’t sign up before hand I have to sign up within 24 hours after his first appointment. That was a little confusing to me, but I wasn’t worried at the time and I considered it to be no big deal. A few weeks later when my dog was still having a problem I tried to file a claim, but since that problem was noted in the first vet exam Trupanion won’t cover it because it’s ‘pre-existing’. So it’s all just dirty tricks to get out of paying. It turns out I couldn’t sign up in advance of his first vet visit because they want to be able to collect as many pre-existing conditions that they won’t have to pay for in the future as possible. I work in human healthcare, so I guess I should’ve known better than to expect pet insurance would be any better, but it’s all about their bottom line of course.

Will deny your coverage using pre-existing condition excuse
Trupanion charges high premiums and will deny your pet insurance based on “pre-existing conditions” even if it’s not related. Our dog had giardiasis as a puppy which our breeder said was common. Because of giardiasis our puppy had diarrhea which we treated at the vet (stool samples by vet confirmed giardiasis) and we defeated the bacteria. After some time our dog got sick and started throwing up and had diarrhea. Vet confirmed through extensive testing it wasn’t giardiasis related and even included that in the notes to Trupanion. Trupanion said because the symptoms are the same (diarrhea) they won’t cover. Using that analogy if a human had a fever from a common cold as a child, they won’t be covered for a fever caused by cancer or catching the flu in the future? A classic example of an insurance company that will do anything to get out of paying but will gladly take your premiums.

Straightforward claim process
Straightforward claim process. There are some things that are not covered but my girl had some significant health challenges that were. Trupanion has been great through this ongoing process.

Trupanion has been awesome!
Trupanion has been awesome!! My dog had cancer and an ACL surgery this year and I’m SO glad I decided to go with Trupanion. They made it so easy using their website and most of the time just went directly thru the Vet Clinic. Also, having Trupanion made all the decisions easier to make as far as the extent of her care. Can’t say enough good things about this company. Would highly recommend them!!
