Tedious Claims Process - Wont Cover Everything

The most unhelpful pet insurance company when your pet gets sick! I joined Healthy Paws in 2018 when my premiums were around $30 something and their claims process was much faster. This year, Nov 2021, I submitted a claim to get reimbursed for my dog's MRI procedure. I've been going back and forth via email and phone calls about missing medical records since we adopted him Dec 2017. After I thought i submitted most of our historical medical records, suddenly they closed my claim saying "Missing Medical records from all of your pet's veterinary visits prior to 04/2018. Missing Medical records from the enrollment exam between 2/10/2017 to 2/24/2018" First NOT one customer rep told me about this detail. Second, I told them numerous times that we don't have medical records for most of 2018 since he had no health issues during that time. On top of that, our premiums have increased by 20% each year. Healthy Paws makes it so difficult to get reimbursed and denies your claim for silly reasons like "we don't have enough medical records" dating back to caveman times! They love delaying payment and trying to find if your pet has a pre-existing condition! I'm beyond disappointed and frustrated with this company!!!

Biggest scam in pet insurance

We’re new pet parents and have a 5 month old puppy. Early on at 2.5 months he had a few runny bowel movements and we had it tested (everything came back normal) once we got him on the correct diet everything went back to normal. At 5 months old our puppy started squealing while making a bowel movement and was in a lot of pain. We found a piece of lego in his stool that he must have grabbed from our nephew over Christmas break. When he wasn’t acting normal and was still clearly in a lot of pain we took him to the vet hospital and they recommended x-rays and a few other test to see if he had a foreign object stuck somewhere in his system. Trupanion was an absolute joke suggesting since our dog had a stool sample tested a few months prior this was an “existing condition” So here we are right after Christmas paying a monthly premium pet insurance and also getting stuck with the large vet bill. If you choose to do pet insurance go with anyone but Trupanion. The staff on the phone were rude and didn’t seem to care at all. I’d rate them 0-10 if I could, absolute scam.

Issues with Claims on Repeat

Everyone that I speak with over the phone is very pleasant and helpful. However, it is difficult to submit certain claims d/t covid and not being allowed inside the vets and all invoices/receipts being emailed. Pets Best seems to be unhappy with all of my "Proof of Purchases", even though if you actually read the forms uploaded, everything is present. It is also difficult to figure out which claim Pets Best is having issues with if you have multiple claims open for review. If you do not keep track of what has been uploaded under which claim number you are screwed and virtually have to start the process over. I also can't believe that once your dog is diagnosed with something then the following year they up your monthly charge... drastically

Ups and downs, but still pleased

I've had my ups and downs with Pets Best but, in the end, I'm pleased. Going in I knew that reimbursements could take up to 45 days and so I can't complain about that, but people should know what to expect. Their premiums are less than most others and I felt a delay in reimbursement is reasonable for the price. They've paid out on most all my claims and they've also reimbursed the biggest claims I've submitted. As with any insurance company, please read the policy very carefully to understand pre-existing conditions and what's covered and not covered. My rates were increased $400/year after a few claims including a $4k hospital stay. Not happy about that, but it's understandable. Customer support is ok, nothing special but they get the job done. The biggest issue I have with Pets Best is not their coverage, it's the fact that a bank (Synchrony) owns the company. Ethical? Maybe, maybe not. Provided your expectations are reasonable, I recommend Pets Best Health Insurance.

I feel scammed

Our Dog speared herself with a branch and had to be taken in for stitches - since the wound was deep they also put a drain for the wound in that had to be removed in two to three days. I thought no problem we have pet insurance. However what isn’t advertised is that they don’t pay for the visit to the emergency vet that costs $200, they don’t pay sales tax- nor would they pay for the removal or the drain or the stitches removed . $1400 of expenses - they paid $300. Granted my deductible was $500. The idea of pet insurance sounds great - but would have been further ahead putting my 70 per month in a contingency account rather than throwing it away on pet insurance where they just look for excuses not to pay..

Slow and won't pay reimbursements

Extremely slow claims processing. Takes them 2 months and they re-categorize care conveniently to reduce their reimbursements. Even knowing the nature of insurance companies, these guys are CHEAP. Poor service. I will be switching as soon as my prepaid year is complete. Avoid this company.

Highly Recommend

So happy I purchased pet insurance. After our dog was hit by a car we had over $9000 in vet bills. Healthy Paws made it very easy to file claims and we were reimbursed in 3 days.
