Questionable or the worst pet insurance

Trupanion is one of the worst experiences we’ve had in regards to insurance coverage for our pet. In our case we have a 6 year old Pit Bull / Dachshund mix. Like most dogs she loves to chew things and sometimes ingests things. Prior to our enrollment with Trupanion on 11/2019 we had our dog at the Vet for a procedure to remove a sock and feminine product (tampon). In her 4 years of existence at the time she had only been to the Vet one other time from chewing on a Smoke Flavored Femur bone. Which we discovered on the internet is bad for dogs and many dogs end up in the Vet after chewing on them and ingesting them. On 11/19 after spending $4000 on the procedure to save our dog we decided to look into insurance. Unfortunately we signed up with Trupanion. After explaining to the representative of Trupanion why we were seeking coverage and explaining the entire scenario to her we asked if it happened again would it be covered and she stated yes! Since 2019 until now, Jan 2022, she has only had one incident on12/21 that required her to have a n endoscopy to remove a foreign object from her stomach. We filed a claim and the first thing they did is deny the claim, claiming more information of my dogs medical history was required. Upon telling them you have all her history as she was never seen for anything else they denied the claim again a week later stating it is a incident that has occurred 2 times prior. Totally inaccurate as the first one was a femur bone. They basically take your money, know your dog’s history tell you “yes you’ll be covered”, then deny you with no recourse but legal action.

Worst pet insurance ever

Worst pet insurance ever. Hardly worth it. They didn't cover my dog's neuter under the regular pet insurance but under another benefit of wellness. Everything was covered under wellness, an additional add-on benefit. I ended up paying them $90 a month and then wellness was tapped out on regular things like shots before my dog's neuter came up. I ended up cancelling with them after the neuter and they sent me a bill for the rest of the year... for the next 6 months of wellness. They sent me an email saying I could pay in one large lump sum or they would send me to collections. They sent me this on a holiday. I cancelled a little after Christmas. Here it is, almost two weeks later and they jump the gun to send a notice out like this. I have never been sent to collections or received a threat like this. It is unethical for them to cancel and not tell me they would be charging me for the next 6 months. To send out a threatening email like this, two weeks later, lets me know what kind of company they are.

Any excuse to put limits on your pet

Riley had eaten something metal during Xmas claim was not covered but because I reported it she had gotten sick and because I was upfront about her history they claimed it was a pre existing condition and it was not. Gastro intestinal cover a lot of issues thankfully she grew up and is way better but horrible insurance

They make filing a claim easy

They make filing a claim easy and effortless and payments are prompt. Most of the customer service reps are great. Had one the other day that was short and curt. The representative from my home state is about the best customer service rep I have ever dealt with, she took time to explain things and was very courteous would highly recommend.

The fine print makes it worthless

In my opinion, this company is incompetent and verging on fraudulent. Their promotional material says that their plan "covers new accidents and illnesses." That's not true. They do not cover veterinarian charges, which are the bulk of what you pay if your pet is ill or injured. This is incredibly misleading and makes their insurance policy almost worthless. One day later: It's nice to see that Healthy Paws is monitoring this, even on a US holiday. Because you've engaged, here are a couple of hypothetical situations for you to answer: 1. Insured pet is injured and needs urgent care at a 24-hour vet. Bill has charges for the vet and for x-rays. What's covered? (Ignore deductible and co-pay - we know those will be paid by pet owner.) 2. Same situation, but pet needs surgery. Bill has charges for the vet, x-rays, and surgery-related items like drugs and disposables. What's covered? After you reply (of if you don't) I'll post the answers I got as a Healthy Paws customer.
