You start with a new pet and a new insurance company and they don't explain how & when to get reimbursed. So then they deny your claims. What is the point of insurance then? They've denied everything. DO NOT choose this company! To be specific: Buried on page 11 of their insurance policy, they tell you claims must be submitted within 90 days. This needs to be put up front. Needless to say, I missed it. I had human family illness and insurance that was more pressing in the middle of a pandemic. REALLY!!!

False advertising - Stay away from Trupanion
Hello, I discourage everybody to use Trupanion insurance for your pet. We recently submitted a claim for a treatment my dog received. When we count all the exclusions (taxes, examination fees, deductible applied only on covered fees, etc), we realise that their coverage is negligible. For a total bill of 1781,35$ of hospitalisation, the total coverage was only of 278,24$. If we soustract the deductible of 700$, the coverage was only of 25,7% which is pretty far from the 90% advertised everywhere. You really have to read carefully the policy to realise that Trupanion is a really bad insurance. Therefore, their marketing is pretty much a fraud! After doing my research among friends and Facebook groups, I realised that a lot of people have experienced the same problem with Trupanion. Furthermore, Trupanion has a pretty bad have a pretty bad customer service. If you look at the other bad reviews on Trustpilot, they will reply the same preformulated text meaning absoluty nothing. Don't hesitate to reach me if you want some further informations regarding the bad experience I had with Trupanion. Kind regards, Arianne

Two Foreign Body Surgeries in 3 Weeks! Trupanion Saves the Dog and the Bank Account
My 16 month old Rott x Lab had 2 surgeries for foreign body removal within 3 weeks of each other. He has had Trupanion since I got him as an 8 week old puppy. The Trupanion team has been wonderful to work with, the app usually works really well, they have quick turn around times in claim processing and the best part is that they are working with the vet clinics to pay them directly rather than the owner needing to have all of the money up front and then submitting for reimbursement. This is two incidents of over $4000 each in less than a month! All of my dogs have Trupanion. For major medical, it is so worth it. Premiums are extremely reasonable, especially if you enroll your puppy immediately. Premiums stay the same as your pet ages, only adjusted for inflation type of costs. You aren't put on restrictions, premiums increased, or coverage dropped for multiple high cost procedures. I love Trupanion. All pet owners should at least have it for major medical issues like foreign body exploratory surgeries. Breeders: you can buy a breeding rider that covers c-sections and other reproductive organ issues.
