Healthy Paws Is Amazing

We have had Healthy Paws insurance for our cat (approximate age 10) and dog (approximate age 3) for the past 3 years. Our experience with Healthy Paws has been nothing short of amazing. Our beloved cat recently developed congestive heart failure. She has been in-and-out of the emergency hospital several times, and is now under the care of a cardiologist. This care was necessary to save her life. Healthy Paws has paid for virtually everything. In the last month alone, Healthy Paws has paid over $5,000 for her care. This medical care would not have been possible without Healthy Paws. In addition, our Golden Retriever has had various ear infection, allergy and skin issues. Healthy Paws has paid for those conditions, as well. Their customer service is excellent. Filing a claim is as easy as snapping a photo of the veterinarian's invoice and sending it through an app on your phone. Healthy Paws sends several email updates as your claim is being processed, and I generally receive a check within 7-10 days. They are always available to answer any questions. We are forever grateful for our Healthy Paws insurance. If you are considering pet insurance, I highly recommend Healthy Paws. It pays for itself. It is worth it. It gives you the peace of mind to know that you can afford the medical care your pet needs and deserves. Healthy Paws is truly your partner.

Wouldn't pay my claim

First, let me start by saying I understand that the coverage did not cover STANDARD periodontal disease. That being said, my 3 year old cat had a rapidly progressing (less than 6 months) dental issue, with restorative lesions and severe mouth pain. She had trouble eating due to the pain, and we got her in for the procedure as soon as we could. She ended up having 13 teeth extracted. Pet's Best insisted this was your run-of-the-mill periodontal disease, like you would see in an older cat, that progresses over the years. My 3 year old cat (She's a Norwegian, so not even fully mature) got her wellness exams on a regular basis, and had stellar teeth up until her exam in April 2017, when the vet said we would need to have some extractions done by the end of the year. Her teeth deteriorated so quickly, we needed to take her in 5 months later for the extractions. I had to appeal their decision twice, and I finally got a judgement. My deductible is $500 (the procedure was over $1,000), and they paid me $490 and change - toward my deductible. They only paid for two of the 13 tooth extractions. I've had Pet's Best for many years, and have never filed a claim. I will no longer be using this company.

Thank you, Trupanion!

Trupanion, you’ve converted me. I was one of those people that thought pet insurance was silly. My thinking was, “It’s a dog. Yes, she’s a family member and we love her; but she is a dog, we don't want to prolong her life if she's in pain just so we can have more time with her.” Then everything changed starting in May of last year when our 9 ½ year old Bouvier des Flandres, Lilly Pop, was diagnosed with Immune Mediated Thrombocytopenia (ITP). Essentially, she had ZERO platelets in her blood and was in danger of spontaneous bleed out. She was bleeding in her gums and internally. After a 5 day stay at the veterinary hospital, which included a padded crate and a weak dosage of chemotherapy delivered intravenously, she was allowed to come home with 8 prescriptions we would be giving her 2 times per day. Over the next few months, I think she had most all adverse reactions to the 2 strongest medications required to treat this disease, before we were able to begin gradually decreasing the dosage. At 6 months, she was completely off the medication and her platelets were back to normal and holding and she was back to her normal self, a 10 year old permanent puppy. We are so thankful to have this beautiful, fun-loving easy going, gentle dog with us for the following years that are left. We would have probably not spent the >$10,000 to possibly prolong her life, as there were no guarantees the treatment was going to work. Having the insurance, meant we did not have to make that difficult decision.

After working in veterinary services for quite some time, Trupanion is by far the easiest insurance company to deal with. I use it for my dog because I know they will cover my pet and let myself and the hospital know within a few hours or less.
