Trupanion Canada | Pet Insurance Review

I literally cannot say enough amazing things about Trupanion. And since sharing of our experience on social media, there have been over a dozen people that have now gotten Trupanion insurance for their pets based on what we have been through and the incredible support we get from this organization. Last September we adopted a 2 month old kitten from our local shelter, they gave us the free Trupanion trial for 6 weeks. Once that ended, I signed our cat up as the premiums were excellent and she was so young. We had never had pet insurance for any of our other pets, in spite of some of our other pets have had expensive medical issues, and we always wondered if we should have had insurance for them. At the time when our cat's trial ended on a total whim we decided to put our 6 year old COMPLETELY HEALTHY dog on Trupanion for a year. Three months later we found a lump on her leg, and got the devastating diagnosis of a cancer of her connective tissue. Two surgeries later, including an amputation, the one of the MAJOR things we were beyond grateful for was to go into our appointments with her, and her surgeries and to have the peace of mind to say, "Do whatever it takes to save her... we have insurance." She got through this like a trooper. Then fast forward to the present which is five months later, she suddenly and abruptly developed an auto immune disease that was killing off her blood platelets, and a severe case of pancreatitis. Both of these things happened at the same time. She was literally a day or two from death, the vets told us. Our vet bills to date are well over $12,000 and if it had not been for our coverage from Trupanion, we would not have been able to allow her to live. We simply would not have been able to afford it. This is the excruciating decision that millions of people have to make every year. Don't be one of those people! Her medication for both of her illnesses will be covered for life, if she needs them. Any re-occurence of either of them will be covered. One of the best things about Trupanion is that you can do direct billing. You don't have to try to find the thousands of dollars to pay the bill, and then go through the hassle of submitting receipts. It is all done at the desk before you leave. And if Trupanion has any questions, they just chat with the vet and you are only left with paying out the balance owing and your decuctible. Our girl is not out of the woods yet, she has only been home for one day after eight days in the hospital, but we can have TOTAL peace of mind that whatever we need for her we can do for her all because of having pet insurance.

Trupanion is there for you when you need them with prompt service and payments. Our dog had to be rushed to an animal hospital for emergency treatment. Trupanion responded immediately and authorized direct payment to the hospital. We were able to focus on our pet's care and make informed decisions without having to worry about how we were going to pay for her care. We would not hesitate to recommend Trupanion to anyone.

Trupanion has been a lifesaver with my dog Lexie, she has recently been diagnosed with IPMA, an autoimmune condition. The vet bill for a week in hospital and an MRI was over $7000 plus ongoing ventinary care for at least a year upto lifelong. Trupanion has paid for itself. The only thing I would change about my policy would be for required follow up appointments partially covered.

Scam! Signed up with trupanion may, 2015. Noticed my monthly payment kept increasing. Went from $77 and, $89 a month to $89 & $107. I called in to be told they increase yearly due to vet prices increasing (funny the vets in the city have increased their prices). I was upset that they didn't let me know (told me they sent a email in April which I definately don't have.) if I knew they increased their rates yearly I would of never signed up.... How much does it increase? Every year for how long?..... I've never even made a claim,! What a waste of money. Scam

I rescued Heidi, a Bernese Mountain Dog with severe chronic dry eye, 2 years ago when she was 6. Last year, she developed a small mast cell tumor on her side; subsequent checking revealed she had the early stages of lung cancer. I took her to the very best facility in the area, Cornell Veterinary Specialists in Stamford. They removed 2 of her smaller lung lobes and put her on chemo.
