They are failing my cat during cancer treatment

I left a positive review one month ago, thanking Petsecure for helping with my cat's chemo treatment costs. Well, shortly after that they sent me an email, after almost 16 years of paying premiums with little to no claims and payouts - he has been absolutely healthy until his lymphoma diagnosis - to say that they are cutting his coverage in half "due to your recent claims". I am disgusted at this attitude. If they aren't there to help when our babies get sick, what are we paying them for??? I am now completely disenchanted and disappointed. I will be changing the insurance carrier for my two kittens as I don't want to give Petsecure any more of my premium payments if this is how they are going to treat us when we get ill. My sweet boy will get well in spite of their uncaring and heartless attitude! I am told our case "will be reviewed in 6 months" - well, I will make sure he is well enough to be here for that, and then we will tell them again what we think of them. Petsecure, be very ashamed of yourselves!!

Impossible to stop contract

We wrote, called, emailed and did everything we could to stop the contract because we didn't get the benefit of it. The deductible was always equal that the cat's costs. They never responded. We put a stop payment on the account and immediately they hounded us and threatened debt collectors for $70 premiums on months after we asked to stop and never used the service. It's an unethical company.

Changes coverage if you make claims

We pay high premiums to ensure coverage at 80% co-pay for $5000 per condition, per year from the time our pup was approximately 8 weeks old. She is now 6 1/2 years old. When our dog was 5 1/2 years old, we received notice that they were reducing their co-pay from 80% down to 60%. At no time had we had come anywhere near our maximum coverage (in 5 1/2 years, receipts submitted were just over $5000. Their explanation is they review a 24 month period and determine a level of risk for our dog. They state the reduction is only temporary and in 6 months they will do another review. 6 months later they reduced their co-pay down from 60% to 50%. 6 months later, it remains at 50%. In their ongoing review they use 18 of the same 24 month period, so they will continue to penalize you if you have one large bill or multiple smaller bills even if you are nowhere near your maximum allowable, for an extended period of time. This 'penalty' will continue if you continue to use the insurance.. Their logic, they do not want to charge you higher premiums. In fact, you will pay significantly more money because they provide less coverage (from 80% co-pay down to 50%). As your dog gets older your deductible also goes up. Most years our premiums have increased. (The time it takes them to process claims has also increased). They will then state they continue to cover your dog at the same level and the reduction is only temporary...our dog was diagnosed with a heart condition (stable and has never required treatment) and MAST cell tumour (cancer). She had an anaphylactic reaction to a wasp sting. Her past cancer diagnosis requires we test any lumps. To keep her healthy and reduce risk, we remove lumps when small under local anesthesia. We also have to have an emergency kit available to resuscitate her if she gets stung. They will not cover this emergency kit citing it it our 'choice' to have it. Our dog will die if she does not receive immediate treatment, how is that a 'choice'? The reality is with the reduction in coverage, if we were to submit receipts for $1000, with the higher deductible of $300 they may pay $350, Whereas prior to the changes to this policy, they would have paid $560; $210 increase in what we pay..Essentially, the more receipts you submit, the bigger the penalty that is applied and the longer the penalty will remain in place. This review is based on our personal experience.

Read the fine print

I have been a petsecure customer with 2 dogs. One of my dogs got sick at 11 years old. No previous aliments/claims. Just received word from Petsecure that my coverage will drop to 50% because my dog has had too many claims. He has cushings which requires medication and monitoring So disappointed in this company. When I need them most where are they?
