Nationwide claim services and their supplemental Vet Helpline are top notch!

Nationwide has a very user-friendly claims form and submission process. I can track my claim status in addition to the email updates I receive. I have never been surprised by not receiving expected compensation and on top of it, their Vet Helpline is a wonderful supplemental service I have used several times. I've been with Nationwide for almost 8 years and am a big fan.

super simple and no fuss in processing

When a small bump appeared inside my weiner dog's (Julio) ear I figured it'd be best to keep an eye on it. Over night it nearly doubled in size and that's when my wife and I knew it was something that couldn't wait. Thankfully our wonderful vet was able to get Julio in for surgery that morning so that we could scope and run tests. We're just as thankful for having the support of the animal lovers at Nationwide because making sure your pup is in top shape isn't always cheap, but it certainly helps you to rest easier at night. Great news: insurance offset most of the cost AND our lil guy came home with a clean bill of health! Thank you Nationwide! Carla, Holmes, Niko, Julio and Gracie

Slow

We have found the entire claims process to be a mess. "Deny first," seems to be Natonwide's mantra. Once you do jump through all the hoops, payment is abysmally slow.

Excessively long claim periods (longer than advertised/promised)

I submitted a claim for treatment and was told on December 12, 2018 that they needed medical records to process the claim. On December 26, 2018, I sent in these medical records for the claim to be re-reviewed and processed. On January 9, 2019 I was told it would take 30 days from the day the records were received to process the claim. 30 days passed and on February 1, 2019, I was told another 30 days would be needed. It is now February 22, 2019 and I still have heard nothing. I also have another pending claim from January that has exceeded the 30 day window, even though medical records were provided from the beginning for this one.

A Godsend

we've had dogs for the last 40 years -- usually two at a time. we've never purchased health insurance because 1. it wasn't available for most of those 40 years and 2. when it became available I heard complaints from folks who purchased pet insurance, and then were disappointed when they had a claim, saying that the insurance ended up not covering much. We figured it was not worth it. When we brought our new rescue pup to our veternarian, he told me that Nationwide has a good reputation and that his clients have been happy with it. So we took his advice. So far, we have found the claims process easy, and the company is responsive. The one surprise (though Im sure was in the fine print of the contract) is that there was a limit they would pay for the same issue (skin problems).
