Reimbursements came in quickly

Claims were reviewed quickly but after I hit my deductible the company requested to review all of my dog's vet records and took 30 days to review this. During those 30 days no other claims were approved until the review was finalized - I was surprised by this and why it took SO long to review the vet records. I have a young puppy and got her insurance right after getting her so her vet record was not long at all. After the review process was finalized, all the claims were processed and I have had no issues submitting claims or getting reimbursements. I am pleasantly surprised at how quickly it takes to have my reimbursement in my account.

Cancelled My Policy With Nationwide

I purchased Nationwide Pet Insurance with some doubt, because insurance in general is usually such a scam.... but vet bills are expensive so I thought if I just broke even and got the chance to pay vet bills in the form of monthly insurance payments instead of all at once that would be helpful. Honestly, at first I was pleasantly surprised. After my deductible was paid off, my pup had a bacteria infection in his paw and needed vet care.... I submitted the claim and within days I got refunded $300 of the $495 that I had spent on the bill..... However, about a week later after playing in a creek, my pup started shaking his head a lot indicating he had an ear issue... so back the vet we went. He was diagnosed with an ear infection and I paid $195 for the visit and medications. I was expecting the same result as before, that I would get my claim processed and it would be deposited in my account. Instead, I got a letter asking for “more medical records relating to his visit”...... I didn’t have more medical records. I adopted him in January of 2019 and the only records I had were his 2 year annual visit from April of 2019 and the the one other visit for the bacteria / paw infection.... I emailed them ,and to their credit they do email back quickly, and they told me to get this claim paid I would need to provide medical records dating from Jul 3, 2018. A full six months before I had even adopted him. I didn’t have them., and I emailed back and asked why they would need medical records for a year prior to an ear infection so the claim could be paid? I then sat down and figured up what I had spent on the insurance and what had been paid out to me and realized that if they paid the $200 claim that they were denying (for the ear infection) I would be ahead by about $150 as far as the insurance actually saving me money.... However, I think they prevent that from happening. They paid the first claim because I had already paid them $400 in monthly billing and spent $250 on vet bills with the deductible.... so they could pay the $300 and they were still making money off of me. But, if they had approved the additional claim of $200 they would be spending money on my dog and not making money... and they can’t let that happen. So I cancelled my policy with nationwide, I am going to try Pets Best and see how that goes. I understand that insurance companies have to make money, but they should at least cover what the say they will, and not try to “get out of covering something” based on how much you have paid vs how much the claim will be. Would not use nationwide again.
