Switched from Healthy Paws to Nationwide just in time!
I obtained insurance through Healthy Paws when our first dog was 2 months old. I had read reviews of Healthy Paws and the seemed decent so went with them. They barely ever paid anything for any of my claims and kept raising my rate. When we got our 2nd dog I signed her up as well but the costs were adding up so when when I started a new job that happened to offer Nationwide, I went ahead and switched because it cost half through Nationwide for what I was paying for Healthy Paws. We had double coverage for a brief period just before the Nationwide kicked in, we detected a major health concern for one of the dogs. and I submitted a $1000 claim to healthy paws for diagnostic work our puppy needed. Out of the $1000, Healthy Paws paid $66. Fast forward 4 months and we had an accident in which our puppy got a hold of some vitamin D pills and poisoned herself. We paid $2500 out of pocket for treatment. Nationwide immediately paid us $2100 of this after our $250 deductible. I was so glad I switched when I did or I am sure Healthy Paws would have paid almost nothing again. I read poor reviews of Nationwide and was a little nervous, but they are fabulous from where I am sitting and am a very happy customer so I wanted to share my story to give people hope that just because they are more affordable, does not mean they will not do the right thing.
