If You're Wondering Whether or Not You Should Get Pet Insurance, Get Healthy Paws!

My wife and I got pet insurance through Healthy Paws for our Dachshund mix puppy Hugo, after a good experience with them with our previous dog Chewie. Hugo recently underwent surgery, and Healthy Paws has been helpful with our questions and efficient in reimbursing us (80% of a very expensive procedure, once we met our deductible). Thank goodness we had Healthy Paws to make this difficult time just a little bit easier!

They don't cover a lot

I got healthy paws thinking it would help me when my dog got ill however have come to discover that they don't cover a lot of common issues. An example, I took my dog in because she has a cough, the vet gave her an x-ray and medication and healthy paws didn't cover it. Similarly she had to have heartworm treatment and they would not cover the cost of it or the associated x-rays. If your dog gets into an accident then you should be ok but if you are getting insurance hoping that it will reduce expenditure in the long run then healthy paws is a waste of money.

Scam: They raise insurance SUBSTANTIALLY as the dog ages to kick older dogs off of plans

Healthy Paws is a flat out scam, which is why there are multiple class action lawsuits against them. Since joining, my rates have doubled despite no pre-existing conditions, few claims, and promises that rates will remain constant. The company raises rates SUBSTANTIALLY as your pet ages, making it astronomically expensive after ~4 years. This is a scheme to kick older animals off of plans, right when they actually need insurance. While your pet is young, Healthy Paws will seem great. The app is easy to use and customer service is friendly. However, they DO NOT follow their own terms of service and WILL raise your rates precisely when you actually need to use the insurance. DO NOT USE HEALTHY PAWS.
