I Wish I Had Never Bought this Insurance!!!

they don't know how to give answers to simple questions such as "who was the provider on the invoice I submitted for reimbursement." Then after I waited 5 min. for an answer to this simple question, I asked for a super. She put me on terminal hold. This is the service we now get from an off-shore call center contracted by Healthy Paws.

Healthy paws responded quickly and…

Healthy paws responded quickly and accurately with coverage. However the monthly price has alarmingly increased over the years and almost doesnt seem worth it.

Buyer’s beware

Buyer’s beware. I bought and paid for a pet policy with great benefits when my dog was 2 yo. I wanted to have this coverage for his care when he got older and would need it. But. when my dog turned 7, Healthy Paws REDUCED the benefits that I bought and paid for just when I needed the benefits the most. Never again, I’ll save up on my own. It’s a rip off. Policy changes should be made for their new customers, not to those who have already purchased and paid for a policy.

Premium goes up more than double once your dog becomes a senior

I agree with the other long term and loyal customers. If you are new and your puppy is still young, you will love Healthy Paws. They reimburse quickly and customer service is great. It was only $40 per month when my dog was a year old. However, once my dog's age has reached at 7/8 years old, the annual premium adjusted more and more by percentage every year. For the past 2 years, I had to lower my coverage and raised my deductible in order to keep up. And for this year, the new monthly amount was ridiculously high (from $230 to $530). I seriously thought it was a mistake and had to call them. Of course they gave me the same old reasons (medical cost is high in your state, etc). I live in the same state all these years and don’t see things being priced that much or doubled even though no doubt there’s inflation. I truly feel helpless and disappointed with Healthy Paws at this stage after being a loyal customer for over 11 years. I feel like my dog is getting old and so they just want you to leave and not provide coverage anymore. I also just talked to a friend who also has Healthy Paws. She told me her premium got ridiculously high as well for her senior dog.

Stay away from Healthy Paws

I have had Healthy Paws for years and thought it was the best company around. Since they were bought out, I not only no longer recommend them, but I also warn people away from them. As soon as your pet reaches a certain age, they are put into a category where they are not eligible for the insurance you purchased when they were younger, even though your rates were raised a considerable amount every single year. I currently have three dogs insured with them. As soon as the oldest turned eight and her renewal came up, she was bumped from 90% coverage with $250 deductible to 70% coverage with $500 deductible. I suspect that, as she continues to age, the coverage will continue to drop. This is not what they promised when we signed up. And, don't bother calling them. You will be connected to an overseas call center where you won't be able to understand a word. They know you are stuck because older pets are hard to insure, so they're taking advantage of all of us. I will be looking for a different company for my younger dogs, or maybe putting the premium into a savings account and taking out accident only insurance with another company. Don't get fooled into using Healthy Paws. It is not the company it used to be.
