Premium doubled on auto-billing. Minimal notice. No resolution.

I’ve been a Healthy Paws customer for years with minimal claims over the life of my dog. My monthly premium increased from under $150 to $352.33. Because the account was on automatic billing, the new rate was applied and continued for months before I caught it. Healthy Paws stated that a renewal notice was sent via email and later provided a copy. The subject line reads “Your Pet Insurance Policy Update,” and the premium increase is embedded within a broader message rather than clearly presented as a material pricing change requiring acknowledgment. When I contacted them, I acknowledged the policy terms and proposed a straightforward resolution: move to a lower-cost plan and address the approximately $1,600 in overpaid premiums in a way that preserved the relationship. They declined. I was told no adjustment of any kind was possible. This may meet a regulatory standard. It does not meet a reasonable standard for communicating a material change tied to automatic billing. If you’re evaluating pet insurance, I would look for a company that treats a doubling of premiums as something that requires clear, active acknowledgment—not a single standard notice. That was not my experience.

Extremely Disappointed After 13 Years of Loyalty

I’ve been a Healthy Paws customer for 13 years and have insured all of my dogs with them. I’ve always had a $250 deductible with 90% coverage, and I have never missed a single payment in all those years. I believed I was a valued, long‑term customer. Recently, I noticed my monthly premium had dropped slightly, which didn’t make sense. When I logged into my account, I discovered that Healthy Paws had unilaterally changed my deductible to $500 and reduced my reimbursement to 70% — without any clear notice, explanation, or consent. After more than a decade of loyalty, this feels like a complete betrayal. I trusted this company to be there when my pets needed them, and instead I found out major policy changes were made behind the scenes that significantly reduce my coverage. I’m extremely disappointed and frustrated. Customers deserve transparency, especially those who have stayed with a company for over a decade. I hope Healthy Paws reconsiders how they treat long‑term policyholders, because this experience has destroyed my trust in them.
