Healthy Paws | Pet Insurance Review

I’ve had Healthy Paws Pet Insurance for several years after switching from another company whose prices got way too high. Thankfully, I never had to make a claim until now. My dog had 2 emergency GI events occur with a week of each other. And EVERYTHING that should have been covered was. And it was done so simply and quickly. I’m very grateful and thankful to Healthy Paws for allowing me to totally focus on my dog’s health and not the finances of it all.

Healthy Paws has stood by me for about eight years with a rescue dog that from almost the get-go had a chronic issue and they’ve covered her meds the whole time. Just recently, they covered back surgery and incredibly expensive diagnostics like MRIs and many different meds for what is once again a new chronic condition. I could not have cared for my sweet girl without them. They’ve saved me thousands. I’ve had smallish annual rate increases, like everyone else, but it’s not costing me more than other insurances are charging in this area. In other words, they’re not massively raising my rates because I’ve had a lot of claims. Their claim submissions and reimbursement are almost always fast and easy too. Highly recommend!

While I expect premiums to increase as our pets age, I did NOT expect HP to unilaterally change the fundamentals of our policy. When our pets were young, we chose 90% coverage w/ $100 deductible - which was a great decision in retrospect as some of our pets have developed chronic conditions that HP has historically paid without issue. Our annual renewal just came in however, and HP have unilaterally decided to change our coverage to 70% w/ $500 deductible, stating they no longer offer the previous coverage - despite the statement on their page "Coverage with your Healthy Paws plan is continuous unless canceled. The Healthy Paws plan will not drop your pet or decrease coverage due to age or claims". Now that we have pre-existing conditions, changing providers is not a realistic option - so we're stuck with however HP decides to downgrade their coverage. I'd highly recommend looking elsewhere!

Healthy Paws has been great. I have not had a chance to use the insurance since both my pets have been healthy. Recently my one dog was diagnosed with Cushings disease and we have had and continue to have many vet visits. Healthy Paws has covered 90% of the cost and its has been a seamless process. The claims are easy to file and they are prompt with the reimbursements. I highly recommend them.

Healthy Paws with CHUBB has been amazing! They helped make our nightmare experience when my dog and I were attacked much easier to deal with. It was allowing us to keep our focus on getting the care our dog needed over the course of several days and two surgeries and not focus on how we would be able to pay for the necessary surgical and follow up visits. They were there for us when we most needed them.
