Lied About Coverage - Will Not Reimburse for Any Doctors Treating Sick Dog - Buyer Beware!
Buyer Beware!!!! I bought this insurance for my Frenchie when I first got her. Last January she herniated a disk and had emergency surgery and was diagnosed with IVDD. The insurance covered the doctors, the surgical fees and the medications as well as the follow up exam, less my deductible as I expected based on what I was told when I initially compared companies. However, when my insurance renewed three months later they upped my monthly premium by more than 20% and since then have refused to cover any of the medical professionals that have treated her. She had one emergency room visit in March and two emergency room visits last month - one at her regular animal hospital and the following day -- because she got worse - at the emergency room of the Animal Medical Center in NY where she had her surgery. In these instances Healthy Paws has refused to cover the treating veterinarians claiming that they dont cover normal exams - despite the fact that my dog was in all cases an emergency admission and in the later case needed the involvement of a neurologist. My policy is supposed to reimburse me 90% with a $500 annual deductible. thus far I am out of pocket $773.60 for these three emergency visits and not only have I received NO reimbursement.... but Healthy Paws says I still have $150.48 remaining deductible! (I do not submit claims for my dog's annual checkup and vaccines because I understand that the wellness visits are not covered - the out of pocket above represents only those charges related to emergencies arising from her IVDD.). Do not trust this company... what kind of medical insurance omits coverage for doctors in a medical emergency?
