Lock you in at low price and then scam you with higher prices and lower payout when pet is older

All the reviews here are from people whose dogs are in the pre rug-pull age. Healthy paws is a scam. They lock your young (and healthy) pets into a 7 year cycle of paying premiums - then as soon as the pet hits 7, premiums will jump sharply, and coverage disappears - and you have no choice My premium started at maybe $40 a month, and is now $230 after paying easily $15k or more in premiums. Coverage was 90 percent reimbursement and was changed to 70 (no choice given). They know older pets won't find insurance elsewhere if you shop. So they eat up years of premium, and screw you over when your pet no longer has a choice of price shopping. This used to be a standalone company I think, then bought by "big business" and enshittified. Do not buy from these big businesses scammers, they care only about stock prices and profits.

You are better off just setting aside cash and signing up for a wellness plan

You are better off just setting aside the premium you would have paid them and investing or saving the money yourself. They are awful. They don't cover anything, they raise the prices considerably every year and lower the coverage, raise your copay etc. Also they don't cover any exams. Even if you bring a sick pet in, need emergency blood work, etc. They just call it an "exam" and won't pay for ANYTHING. Don't use them. I got stuck with them because when it came time to finally use the coverage I'd been paying for years for, my dog was older and so any pre existing conditions made me stuck with them. Sign up for a wellness plan with Chewy or some place like that, save your cash for when you need emergency care. Healthy Paws will do EVERYTHING to make sure they cover as little as possible. Literally made me hate pet insurance! So mad at myself for being stuck with them. I warn everyone not to get trapped into using them.

Premiums go up and benefits go down!

I have been with Healthy Paws since 2016. I have had little to no claims and my premium keeps going up. It is almost triple from when I started. This year it went up 20% and they increased my deductible and lowered the percentage that they pay out!!! It is a criminal act in my opinion. Don't get sucked in, open your own savings account and put the money in it instead.

Monthly Cost

$15 – $80, depending on breed, zip code, age of pet and choice of deductible and co-pay.

No per incident, annual or lifetime pay-out limit.

Deductible

You can choose an annual deductible of $250, $500 or $750* *Choice depends on age of the pet
