We have been paying Fetch since our…

We have been paying Fetch since our puppy was 6 months old. She is now 10 and because she has been put on heart pills this year, we had to make our 1st claim. As a result, Fetch has increased the renewal of her long-standing, paid-every-1/4-without-fail premium from $1550/year to $2650/year. That's a 75% increase. if anything is laughable, it's when you call them and are put on hold and Fetch boasts on a pre-recorded message about how they protect against inflation! Someone in marketing needs a refresher on what inflation actually is, because a 75% increase is inflation GOUGING if there is such a phrase! We have basically prepaid our medical costs all these years with ins co restrictions attached. Fetch tries to rationalize this with an excuse that the province of Ontario has allowed the increase!! We feel this plan has turned out to be nothing short of a scam. Beware folks that as you pure breed ages, Fetch makes darn sure they are not out a single penny. Firstly, they calculate your premium based on the dogs risk profile when you commence with them and then you pay again with hefty price increases after 5 years old. We started with $20M coverage and had to reduce to $15M and increase our deductible to $500 few years ago and now $5M/$500 for the next year, just to make the insurance worthwhile and affordable. Honestly, your puppy needs to become gravely ill early in the early stages of the plan, because it otherwise becomes prohibitively expensive as your dog ages, and when you really need it the most. And that's even though the risk of the breed has already been calculated into your 1/4 instalments since day one. We are now seeing the value of self-insuring by setting up your own medical pet savings that you fund with the amounts you would be paying in premiums. Don't forget that you still have to pay for your regular vet visits out of pocket, so unless there's an accident or serious illness, you likely wont be making any claims on the policy anytime soon. Bank it instead! Coming from an extremely dissatisfied long-standing customer. We may still cancel on renewal and self insure ourselves. Shame Fetch.

Not worth the money you pay every month. Every claim I’ve submitted for my cats ha sheen reimbursed only at a maximum $100 when my total was over $1000 and $1400 on separate occasions. Their policy makes no sense and has no explanation on how the reimbursements are calculated

Penelope Insurance

I have 4 cats and pay for my daughter's 2 dogs. The monthly premium is about $200. I have a senior Cat who is not insured due to his age. He was 8yrs. when he had cancer surgery just above his eye. That was insured. He now has kidney disease that is treated with a prescription diet. To diagnose this, a blood panel was required. That invoice was $1500. His treatment is prescription food. He has been given 3 years. In my own deceased 2 dogs, one had diabetes, requiring insulin and both had chronic bowel inflammation that required prescription food and they both had recurring eye injuries. One had knee surgery on each leg. I remember that was three to four thousand. They were both insured. The co-insurance was 20% and the deductible was $100. I paid approximately $80 per month for both. Now I have 3 cats' premiums. Now deductibles start at $200. My daughter's dog is allergic to chicken, and the other's liver requires prescription food temporarily. He just became blind. I have probably missed something. I had other cats that were euthanized due to extreme illness even though they were insured. However, they were diagnosed and had surgery. Our insurer also covered euthanism costs. My husband and I loved them all and it is painful to lose a pet but we never let them die because we couldn't afford to treat them. You must consider when you adopt an animal that you will require insuring them. Don't think that your animal will never be sick. You are gambling with their life. And reconsider having multiple pets. An average premium can be $45/month.

Plans average $35/month for dogs and $25 /month for cats
