How to Save Money at Concord Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I am very pleased to have found a new vet for my cat Angel. I really like this vet. The vet and staff are kind and go above and beyond to explain things. The fees are also very affordable and he doesn't push anything on you. I am very grateful that he was very straightforward with me and told me what he thought my cat had before doing any kinds of further tests, and so far, my cat hasn't had any further issues. This saved me a lot of money. Thanks so much :)

My husband & I brought both our cats Mia & Leo to get fixed here a couple years ago & the vet is so kind. He is gentle with the animals. I’ve been to my share of vets & I am so glad to have found this clinic because too many vets try & scam you into unnecessary tests to rack up ur bill. He is honest & explains to you so you understand what measures need to be taken to ensure your family member is in good health. I always recommend to family/friends. Thank you!

Brought my cat for her rabies vaccination. Prior to the appointment, I had sent them her vaccination history and was assured she would be given a repeat dose of the existing three-year vaccine. However after the initial assessment, the doctor informed me that he doesn't prefer the same kind. I was totally confused since the one he recommended costs the same as the existing three-year but needed a booster next year that would last for three years. He however did agree not to charge anything for the exam. I consulted with my wife and decided to take my cat back to the clinic we used last time since we didn't expect to spend double. But then the doctor came and said he would give the three year vaccine since it's my decision. I wish this information would've been given to me before to avoid this uneasy situation. Otherwise the experience was very pleasant. I will definitely use this clinic as my cat's primary provider.

Dr. Sharif and the staff here at Concord Vet Hospital are kind, patient, and passionate about the work they do. You can tell by the way this place operates and during the interactions with anyone here that they really care about you and your pets. Our dog Bo has been in a few times to get some surgery done and each time, they have been so understanding and accommodating as they explained the procedure and later the after-care. It's almost an hour away driving from Scarborough, but I completely trust the team here because of the quality of care they provide is so valuable to me.

I had my cat spayed with them. Everything went smoothly and we even did some tests before the surgery to make sure she's clear. After about a week of the surgery, I sent in media of the suture to make sure it's okay and they promptly answered my inquiry over the phone. Thanks so much for such an amazing service and expert vets!
