How to Save Money at Colborne Street Pet Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
We WERE customers of this clinic and of Jo-Anne's for 30 years. 8 pets. Excellent service. Never a complaint. Open during Covid. Great! However, I was never so disappointed as the day I called , this summer (2023), to make an appointment for our dogs to get some shots. I was told the wait was over 3 months, like I was an unknown client! I was then told in no uncertain words that there were multiple vet clinics in Orillia taking new clients and was in fact given the name, address and phone number for two of them without requesting any of it. It was all very rude and matter of fact. My wife and I discussed this disturbing response from our long time vet clinic. We took this as a PFO! I called back to make sure I got the response correct and was told the same a second time. So we did PFO to another vet, actually closer to us. We are happy so far, it's only been 3 months. Too bad. I hope JoAnne knows what her staff is doing. No one ever called us back. Mike Tucker

My appointment was at 2 and I drove 45min because I loved this vet and had moved South but told it was at 4. The Receptionists only response was I had to wait until November for my dog to get vaccinated. She wasn’t very pleasant to deal with and now I have switched vets because how do you wait 3 months for an annual vaccination and no one wants to deal with someone who isn’t helpful and is kind of rude.

I have had Dr. Olynyk and her team taking care of my 3 dogs over 7 years. Amazing care. Total compassion when it came time to say goodbye to my Katie . Dr. Olynyk goes beyond to fine results/ outcomes when my dogs had problems. My Midnite who was in kidney failure reached the great age of just 2 mths shy of 20. The great care and information I was given allowed her to live an active happy life. I had since moved out of area, and was able to keep her as my vet. I have since found a vet here now. And I am eternally greatful for having Dr. Olynyk and her team there for me and my dogs. Thank you all so much!!!

Staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and wonderful with our scaredy-cats. I love that both Dr O and Dr B give great advice on making sure our home is a good environment for cats and take a behavioral approach to issues. I feel involved in my cats' course of care rather than just instructed and I never feel talked down to here. Definitely will continue to go here!

Brought my fur babies there for a long time. Stopped bringing my cat because she was indoor and didn’t need her yearly check ins. Loved the owners, very good with both my cat and dog. However the receptions answering the phone are very rude. Called upset about my sick cat, very rude. Because I stopped bring her she was no longer a patient. Instead of direct me while upset on the phone she was short and uncaring. Not helpful at all. Disappointed. Won’t return.
