How to Save Money at VCA Canada Mississauga Oakville Veterinary Emergency Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My sweet lil guy was prioritized right away for a urinary block. From the moment he was admitted we felt comforted by the staff's care, the regular updates, and every step-by-step explanation during calls and visitations. He came home after a week in the ICU, having made a total 180. I am absolutely relieved and very satisfied with the professional care from all the amazing workers. Many thank yous 🙏

You’re just a number here. Bad experience with internal medicine and oncology. My dog had been a returning patient for 7 months. 7 months of getting to know the oncologist and the techs. I requested for them to see her when she took a turn for the worst and they refused. She was scheduled for her treatment a few days later. They called and canceled her appointment on voicemail and never even asked how she was. Just assumed she died. Then once they were informed she died, no condolences or words of comfort. Go somewhere else if you can. They’re absolutely heartless.

I brought a cockatiel here with a de-gloving injury about 10 years ago . I thought the bird would surely die. They did all they could and referred me to OVC (vet college -Guelph). They were kind, efficient and caring. By the time I got to Guelph , they were ready for us and my bird had emergency surgery. Thst was 10 years ago and the bird is still alive. I am appreciative of the emergency service and great referral that saved my birds life

After calling many veterinarian clinics throughout Toronto, VCA got my dog in without hesitation and triaged him immediately upon our arrival. It turned out he required emergency surgery, which they were able to complete within 24hr of admitting him. They took exceptional care of my dog and kept me updated along the way via text/calls, which was very reassuring given how far the clinic is from my home. The staff I dealt with were all very kind and understanding, and the facilities are clean and well maintained.

Little did I know that my dog would not have a fighting chance the minute he walked into this damn hospital! We brought our pet to this hospital as suggested by our local family vet, to see a cardiologist. He was admitted and kept for 4 nights and days and in that time, he was NOT seen by a cardiologist! Why???? My pet walked into the hospital with a 9 months prognosis but left the hospital with a days/weeks prognosis! Why???? He was able to walk into the hospital on a leash right beside me but had to be carried out when he was discharged 5 days later! Why???? He was emaciated (lost approximately 20% of his weight in 4 nights) with muscle atrophy from being kept for four nights in an oxygen crate (without being walked!!). My dog could not even stand when he was discharged, let alone walk!!! Why???? One vet at the hospital was upfront and told me the very next morning that he was not doing well there, he was restless and stressed. She said that was not good for his heart condition, and he needed to be home with us. She recommended we make arrangements for oxygen at home which we immediately did and had everything set up by the very next day. But then being an emergency hospital, another vet took over his case the next day and decided that he had to stay for another 3 nights, despite the fact that he was very distressed there!!! Do I need to say more???? It was more about making money at the cost of my dog's life ... instead of focusing on providing my pet the best care possible!!! Again the key point here is that he was sent to this hospital with the intent of being seen by a cardiologist ... and he wasn't seen by one, yet they kept him there, struggling for 4 nights! No pet should have to go through this and I will NEVER recommend this hospital to anyone!!! Just a money making racket!!!!
