How to Save Money at VCA Canada Heritage Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Huronia Heritage Hospital is a scam clinic that will bleed you dry, while you grieve trying to do the best thing for your pet. After making arrangements for Madison, after holding him in my arms and watching life leave him...today I got to bring him home in a blue bag and he's now in my freezer, waiting to go on his next journey. Yes, folks, they scammed me. I wanted to have Simon looked at for his lip. They made the appointment, confirmed the appointment, let me bring Simon in to only then tell me they couldn't look at him till the bill is paid in full. I'm not an unreasonable person, I know that has to be paid and the arrangements is for the last 300 to be paid December 30. If it would have been explained to me that that was the protocol before bringing Simon in, I would of been ok, and I'd of waited till the 30. Allowing me to think all was good and Simon would be looked at today, only to get there to be told this, totally floured me. I had the money on me for everything.if they'd of asked me first if I could make Maddy's payment today, and then take a look at Simon, I'd of paid then and there. But they didn't do that....from the get go it was we can't see Simon. Tell me this before, because now I'm here with Simon, and Maddy is somewhere in this building when in reality he is suppose to be sent away for cremation, but that is not happening till bill is paid in full. So, I'm done with the pull at my heartstrings that just leads to bleeding me dry I took Madison back home, Simon never saw the vet, and we are now home waiting for Huronia Animal Services' Randy Bidan , who was called by me in the middle of this fiasco and agreed to help me have Maddy cremated at half the price Heritage was going to charge. I have had a call from Heritage, who wanted to make a deal with me because now they seem all worried about Maddy in my freezer. They didn't offer any reimbursement, nothing , just continue with how can we can make this right. I had to suggest the right thing would be to apologize then offer to do the service for free. She had to call me back to confirm that yea they would do that if I could bring Maddy back today. I wouldn't bring a rock to these people, and if they think they will ever see any of my animals again, their dreaming. When I finally told her that I had it figured out and who would be trusted with.this task, and the price tag, the silence from the other end of the phone was all you could hear. These people who feed on our love of our pets, catch us at our worst moments only to bleed us dry....will one day face their karma....I hope I get to watch. #vcapets #midlandontario #badvets #mainecoon Today they decide to post an answer to my review....they never offered a refunded...I asked for one seeing as the services I paid for were never met. They never offered apology till i mentioned one should offered Then I only got 3o bucks.....I am sure it's more. They did nothing to make this better at the time, they were rude and adamant that they were right. They brought Maddy out time in a blue bag calling him she . They didn't even know who he was. I got home so traumatized not knowing if it was Maddy ,my friend had to come over, open the bag to assure it was him. Horrid treatment and then the trying to cover up their bad service by lying in their review...I tell no lies and if anyone wants to know more I am reachable at metis65@yahoo.com

On Tuesday June 18, 2024 I said goodbye to my boy Diesel. Dr. Jen, Michelle and their team were beyond amazing. Dr. Jen has been his Dr. since the day I brought him home 10 years ago. In the most difficult moments of my life they were quiet and so caring to Diesel. He went over the rainbow bridge peacefully with dignity. When it was over Dr. Jen still spoke to him like he was still with us while her vet technician helped us get his paw print. Thank you for making the worst day of my life a little bit easier. 100% recommend.

I went in to Heritage Animal Hospital this morning to buy a bag of Hill’s t/d cat food. I have bought this food here before. I was told very clearly and several time that they were no longer allowed to sell this food to people who were not clients. I was very surprised and concerned because my cat has a very sensitive stomach that any other cat food we have tried upsets badly. Regret was expressed but I was told, again several times, that this was a company policy over which they have no control. While not directly stated, it was implied that this policy directive came from the food manufacturer. The person also concurred when I said that food would therefore not be available from any other Vet clinic. I found this hard to believe so I phoned my usual Vet clinic I the city. They knew of no such policy and sold the Hill’s cat food to whoever wanted to buy it. By then my wife had phoned around and I was able to buy the cat food I wanted at another Vet clinic in Midland. While I was not actually told a lie, I certainly feel misinformed. It needed to be stated that this was a company policy. And it needed to be said that this food might be available from another Vet clinic. Needless to say, I will not be going back to Heritage Animal Hospital again.

Had a great experience for our first visit there for our cat's annual checkup. Returned 2 weeks later when Opie suddenly got very sick. Everyone was very friendly, caring and thorough and followed up several times to make sure he was recovering nicely. Such a relief to find a great vet in Midland after moving here a year ago. Highly recommended!

I have been taking my dog to see Dr. Jennifer Sullivan for care since I got her from a rescue. My dog has had more than a few challenging health issues. My dog does not like people but Dr. Jennifer and her team have won her trust and can manage her with no issues. The staff at the hospital are loving and kind and have gone out of their way to research medication alternatives, send insurance info, follow up calls etc. They have gone above and beyond to provide outstanding care at a very reasonable price. I am so happy to have found this place.
