How to Save on Veterinary Costs at Midland Veterinary Service

Preventive care

Routine wellness exams can help identify health issues early, often before they become more serious or expensive to treat. Regular checkups are one of the most effective ways to manage long term veterinary costs.

Compare prescription pricing

Some pet medications prescribed at veterinary clinics may also be available through local or online pharmacies. It can be helpful to compare pricing when appropriate to reduce ongoing medication costs.

Consider pet insurance

Pet insurance may help cover a portion of eligible veterinary expenses depending on the plan, including accidents, illnesses, and in some cases preventive care. Coverage details, reimbursement levels, and deductibles vary by provider.

Getting to Know Your Veterinarian

Choosing a veterinarian is an important decision for pet parents. A strong vet relationship is built on trust, communication, and understanding your pet’s individual needs.

Experience

Ask whether the clinic has experience treating your specific type of pet, since care can vary between dogs, cats, and pocket pets.

Emergency Care Procedures

It’s helpful to understand how the clinic handles after-hours emergencies, including whether they provide emergency services or refer to nearby emergency hospitals.

Communication Preferences

Ask how the clinic communicates with pet parents, including updates, test results, and follow up questions.

Breed Specific Health Considerations

Some breeds may be more prone to certain health conditions. Early awareness can help with prevention and early treatment.

Facility Tour

If available, touring the clinic can help you and your pet feel more comfortable before the first visit.

We bring our two cats here for regular shots and check ups. Last week I had a cat that wouldn’t eat anything and had all they motors of a terrible flu. There were many possibilities of what may have caused this, and his situation could be fatal if he didn’t start drinking and eating. I was quite upset. Dr. Tatiana was very good at explaining our options for treatments. I felt like we needed to know what was causing it. A blood test at around 300 dollars might determine that. However she suggested we try treatment first, if he doesn’t get better then we do bloodwork. I’m happy to say my best bud is feeling a whole lot better. The entire staff are amazing. Patient, caring and they made a scary visit more comfortable for my cat, but also me. Being a cat Dad for over 20 years, I’ve never experienced better veterinary care. I’m deeply grateful. All the best to everyone at Midland Veterinary.

Excellent vet and services. Decent, competitive pricing. Do Not call them with a last minute emergency, with as much as 30 mins before close. NO VETS in the area will accept you last minute if you call 1st..... just show up with your emergency....you'll pay for it in the end, but your babies will be taken care of! I don't have a vehicle to travel 45 mins to the closest emergency vet hospital. Money and time will Not dictate whether my pets are cared for....Period xoxo Minus the typical issues that happen when your a breeder....Over all, a Very Good Vet!

***edit**** a member of the team has reached out to better understand the situation & see about what could be done to help. Thank you to the vet team for reaching out to us about this experience****** Friday we had an experience from hell. Cindy the front desk assistant shamed my partner, made him wait outside for a simple cat weighing for flea treatment: made him wait by oncoming traffic then got mad that my cats wouldn’t cooperate due to being right next to loud oncoming traffic.(the cats were terrified) She then gave attitude to me on the phone when I explained that her actions were not professional. The vet team is great Cindy at front desk shouldn’t be allowed to talk to clientele or touch pets based on this experience alone. I had a whole story typed out but it exceeded character limit. I’d love to speak to management about this interaction as Cindy was extremely unprofessional. Her actions and reactions to the situation at hand were not compassionate nor were they professional. I’ve used this vet for over a decade as a child and even now as an adult, Cindy’s never been a problem until now and it seems she’s on a REAL power trip. The vet team is fantastic; & that’s why we won’t let this horrible experience make us leave vets, but Cindy needs to remember that she’s a front desk assistant and nothing more than that. Power tripping, shaming and being unprofessional isn’t a good look on the vet team and that makes people not want to use this vet that is otherwise very good. I’m disgusted with Cindy’s shameful behaviour towards my partner and I. All we wanted to get was a simple flea treatment for our new kitten and Cindy acted like our whole house including ourselves and other pet were infested with bugs (fleas) when we JUST picked up the kitten that day. We even told her this and she still kept up on her power trip and shaming. I even explained I’ve used this vet for over a decade in addition to being allergic to fleas. I think I’d know if my house and other INDOOR pets were infected. I cannot believe she made my partner wait outside by oncoming traffic, then took my kitten & cat out of the cage & got mad at them & my partner when the cats were too scared by the loud traffic to cooperate. The veterinary team is great and that’s why we won’t stop using this vet but you better believe I’ll be keeping a good close eye at the next appointment for productive and positive change in treatment from Cindy the desk assistant. 1) no you don’t need to book an appointment for flea treatment- you never have had to. As it’s easy as coming in having the pet weighed & then you pay & you’re done. 2) precautionary doesn’t mean we need a whole 3 months worth of treatment that’s a money grab especially at $72 for just 4 Individual flea treatments. I also didn’t like that she openly acted like all of my pets had it and my whole house was infected that’s assumptions and it’s just not the actual reality. 3) Cindy is JUST. Desk assistant not a veterinarian.. I think she needs to be reminded of this by management and given prosper training on safe animal handling, compassion, respect & professionalism. Because that appointment on Friday and phone call today from her was NOT professional by any means.

Do not go here. Brought my dog for a physical and they basically just looked at him and said he’s all good, Love paying full price for a trainee to look at my dog.
