How to Save Money at Sana Adelaide Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

If I could give them 100 stars, I would. Hands down THE BEST Vet and staff! We’ve been taking our Dachshund and cat to Dr Trina and her team for a few years. They are superb! So caring, compassionate, friendly, and knowledgable. They take the time to ask the right questions and explain everything so well. It is clear that all of the staff love animals and are in the business to help pet parents and their fur babies. Keep being amazing!! We are so grateful for Dr Trina and her fabulous team!

Dr. Trina and her staff are amazing! They are so caring, so compassionate, so knowledgeable and love my dogs as much as I do. They are always accommodating when I need help and will find a way to see my dogs when I have an emergency. I love that the clinic is in an old house, it is comfortable and cozy. I can’t say enough great things about Dr. T and Wendy, I feel like they are my family.

May be a good clinic but the vet doesn't seem to care much about others unless they are the current ongoing patients. I have lost a rat and possibly two now even after explaining how serious a eye and lung infection was I was still placed on a wait list and it has been nearly two months. Staff are extremely polite and understanding but only having one vet on staff is a major issue and has cost a life to be lost. After being explained that there is only one vet I was then told to go to a different vet all together. This is highly unprofessional and extremely disheartening to know extreme cases are just put on a wait list

Dr. Trina is a gem! She is very knowledgeable and you can tell she takes the time needed to provide excellent care to each animal she sees. The entire staff is friendly and compassionate. I've brought several rats as well as both of my cats here and I'm very happy with the care they've received. The team has gone above and beyond to help get us in when there have been emergencies and are very supportive when the more difficult decisions need to be made. Very appreciative for how comfortable they strive to make all of their clientele, whether it be the animals or their owners.🐀🐈💕

I’ve been taking my Ferrets and my dog to Sana Adelaide for over 2 years now, I adore Dr. Trina & her staff, Wendy is always a friendly face. Dr. Trina is extremely patient and thorough in her exams of my furry friends, she talks me through all of her thoughts and concerns when I present her a difficult case, such as my aggressive rescue bully. Most recently, I had an extremely traumatic event happen at home where I STEPPED ON MY 4lb ferret…. I know…. Terrible fur-mom. :( I left Dr. Trina a voicemail at an ungodly hour, hysterically crying, unsure of my choices, or whether or not my lil man was even going to make it through the night. In the morning when the clinic was open, despite it being a busy surgery day for Dr. Trina, with no available appointments.. they told me to bring my ferret in straight away, and they would exam/treat/monitor him for the day. I gave Dr. Trina the go ahead for X-rays, bloodwork, and supportive medications for him. Dr. Trina called me at noon with her results of the X-rays and her physical exam, along with her treatment plan going forward. I was given the option to take him home at the end of the day, and return him to the clinic the following day for a re-check. Bless Dr. Trina and her amazing staff, because my lil man is now home, given the all-clear after his recheck- well on his way to recovery. I wasn’t even sure if he was going to make it through the night when the incident happened, let alone be given the all-clear to come home (with supportive medications) less than 48 hours later. Dr. Trina showed me the X-rays, bloodwork, and walked me through every step of my ferrets treatment. I felt very confident in her prognosis and treatment plan, and trusted her judgement on where to go/what to do next. I’m extremely thankful to Dr. Trina and her team for coming to my rescue yesterday morning and taking on another fur baby when they had no time to do so. For sitting with him, monitoring him for long hours, and making sure he was in the best condition to come back home to me. The possibility of losing a beloved pet by my own hands was a horrific thought, and I’m forever grateful that thanks to Dr. Trina and her team, that’s not going to be the case. Thank you x10 million Megan Tripp
