How to Save Money at Huntsville Animal Hospital
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I just put down my 13.75 yr old golden doodle. They did an excellent job of keeping me in control of the process, and allowed my dog a comfortable, low stress end to her wonderful life. I was especially pleased with the extent to which we could do the procedure outside in the shade with her peeps on her dog bed, rather than an impersonal exam room.

Took my 2 year old Golden Retriever in as Harley had started off with a head tilt. They sedated him to see if he had a bad tooth. No it was not his tooth. Bloodwork had obvious infection. No antibiotics given, just pain meds. Had to call the in call Vet in Toronto over the weekend as Harley was not improving, his eye looks like it is coming out of the socket. Lethargic, in pain, just not Harley I took him back to Huntsville Clinic. When they first saw him, they thought he may have Blasto- well if a dog have Blasto it's like having a parvo puppy. Should be isolated ect. Ran his bloodwork, with all the other dogs around & staff with NO PPE. With another $600.00 paid, AND AN OBVIOUS eye issue-which they did not even do an assessment on HIS EYE at all, no temp taken-they suggested I should see a eye specialist for Harley. No referral, no eye exam or standard care practise done, I left there so upset. So then I drove Harley down to Barrie Animal Hospital-they did an eye exam right away, further testing, which would take a few days. Harley had antibiotics, eye antibiotics & pain meds. They told me if Harley took a turn to get him in. Today Harley woke up with his face swollen. Well guess what he had to go to my regular vet & he has a BLOOD CLOT in his brain. This clinic is so unprofessional. No eye exam, I should say no exam for the issue at hand. Just told me to see an eye specialist with no referral or knowledge of who I should call. This is not about money (I did pay them a lot), but yet the neglect of care of Harley & crazy vet charges for NOTHING. They had seen him 2 times, with no neuro exam, eye exam ect ect. It is obvious from his pictures that there is a CLEAR issue. My suggestion is do not take any of your 4 legged love ones here at all. Unacceptable negligent care.

We took our senior cats to the clinic for the first time in order to do a check up and had a wonderful experience. Dr Jackson and her team were extremely nice and caring with our cats and they explained everything carefully to ensure that we understood all the tests that they were going to do as well as the associated cost. Overall we felt that they were very transparent and that they genuinely care for pets. Happy to have found them!

We took our two cats for an annual checkup and several tests and were extremely happy with our visit. We received friendly, competent care from every team member, and communication was clear, transparent, and articulate. We left with a very high degree of trust and will happily continue to take our pets here. Highly recommend.
