How to Save Money at Park Avenue Veterinary Services
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I cannot say enough good things about Park Avenue Vet or Doctor B. My dog Moose is very afraid of the vet . He had a bad experience with another vet in town and now is very reactive at the vet especially with getting any injections . We’ve worked very hard with Moose and he still is afraid of the vet . Doctor B worked with us and the trainer we worked with (Kristen Smith at Smith canine academy who is also wonderful) we have found a solution to get moose vaccinated and to keep him as happy as we can . She has helped us so much and cares about our little Moosie who can be a big a difficult patient . She’s always willing to go above and beyond and we cannot thank her enough . She’s is the best vet there is !

Wow I was very impressed today meeting the staff at this wonderful clinic. They were so patient with my Havanese who is anxious with getting treated at the vets with his ear and they took time and even offered that we can stop by to make it a positive experience for him to visit the clinic. When I have also been pushed into many vaccinations elsewhere I also love that they take the time to explain what is necessary instead of just going ahead with everything. They were such an understanding staff that I haven’t come across before and care so much about what they do. Very great experience here! When I also mentioned adverse reactions to flee and tick medications with a previous dog they even showed me sprays to keep safe on walks and give alternatives. I appreciated it so much!

I had been taking my dog here since he was a puppy as well as a previous dog. When I brought my sick dog into see Dr. B. In mid January he was very sick with a high temperature and was not eating or drinking. I had to push my way in to get an appointment which was during their regular business hours but apparently not Dr. B.’s hours as she charged me $245 after hours emergency fee. Approximately 2 weeks later my dog was sick again with stomach/nausea and was screaming and stretching in pain. I was able to get a same day appointment but after arriving and waiting he seemed to ge doing better so I cancelled my appointment but unfortunately 2 blocks after leaving he starting screaming again so I went back. Dr. B. Was taking in another patient that apparently took my spot and she stood there looking at me holding my dog that was in obvious pain that she didn’t have time to look at my dog as she had to leave. They offered me an appointment in a few hours but that didn’t obviously work. I ended up taking my dog to the emergency vet and paid their fees but were happy to take care of my dog. If you are looking for a clinic that only worries about running a business and the bottom line go here. If you want a clinic that actually cares do not go here. PS they also never answer their phones or return messages. You have to email and wait hours sometimes for their response. EDIT response to owners response: Not sure what complimentary rechecks you are talking about….you must be mistaking me for someone else because I never walked through your front door without dropping $$$ lol!! You are not telling the truth. I dropped off a stool sample way back in January that your staff did not order correctly. Giardia was not tested correctly and that is what he has! Terrible!!

Dr B has been caring for my animals for over 25 years! My cats have all loved her, so did my dog. We’ve been through many illnesses and emergencies, and the care has always been excellent. Highly recommend!

The world is vastly changing and I want the best for my dog. It is a challenge to sort through the info out there. I am so very grateful to have Dr. B and her staff there to help. The care is above and beyond anything I have received in the past. This is our 5th dog. ! Thank you!
