How to Save Money at Richview Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The staff is excellent!! They are very welcoming and friendly and bring good energy. Dr. Portch is awesome!! She, and her assistants, take the time to be clear on everything, which provides excellent education for all pet parents. Vets are expensive, so not being rushed and a doctor providing patience with care, knowledge, attention and enthusiasm is very important. Thank you Richview Animal Hospital for always providing a fulfilling experience!! Mary & The Nash ✌🏻🐾

Don't be surprised if you find charges on your invoice that you were not aware of and didn't specifically consent to. Always review your bill carefully and ask for a breakdown before paying. When I inquired with the front desk, they told me it's "office policy" to conduct certain checks and add them to the invoice by default. It felt deceptive, and Reception was dismissive of my concern. Worse, though, is that a staff member tried to give my dog a booster shot and missed - it went "through and through", piercing my dog's skin twice and coming out the other side. Vaccine liquid was in a little puddle on the floor. My dog then had to be poked a third time for one shot :( The location and facilities are convenient and clean, but I won't be returning.

I've been taking my two beloved dogs, Eevee and Luna, to this vet clinic for the past five or more years, and I couldn't be happier with the care they've received. The staff at this clinic is not only highly professional but also incredibly compassionate. They've created a warm and welcoming environment that immediately puts my furry friends at ease. The level of expertise and dedication displayed by the veterinarians is truly remarkable. Whether it's a routine check-up, vaccinations, or more complex medical issues, they always go above and beyond to ensure Eevee and Luna are in the best of hands. They take the time to explain every step of the treatment process and are always open to answering any questions or concerns. What's also wonderful is the clinic's commitment to staying current with the latest advancements in veterinary medicine. This means my dogs receive the best and most up-to-date care available. The clinic is well-equipped with modern facilities and technology, which adds to my confidence in their services. Eevee and Luna's health and happiness are of utmost importance to me, and this vet clinic has been an essential partner in maintaining their well-being. I am immensely grateful for the outstanding care and support they've provided over the years, and I wholeheartedly recommend this clinic to any pet owner. Thank you for taking such good care of my furry family members!

I’m long overdue in updating my review from two years ago! I’m so glad you sent a survey. Everything is 5 star or more at Richview for sure! This is also a great opportunity to say thank you for all of the wonderful care that the Doctors and all of the team provide. Lucy has had a number of health issues over the last couple of years and we could not manage without all of the the phenomenal attention she receives at Richview. We appreciate it so much! We had our first in person visit with Dr. Portch last week. It was a great experience! It is clear that she is a very caring and thorough veterinarian. She was recommended to us and I can see why! It was also great to meet her own dogs including a pup just a bit older than mine!

We've been bringing our pet to this hospital for about 6 years. Here is my conclusion: if your dog is healthy, you're always welcome. However, if your dog is sick—good luck. We've had a very poor experience with Dr. Porch and a terrible experience with Dr. Singh. Dr. Singh didn't even touch our dog during the visit but still charged us for a full consultation. If you're considering this clinic, I suggest looking elsewhere. When you really need them, they won't be there for you.
