How to Save Money at Animal Clinic of East Durham (and Home Euthanasia Services)

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Very happy with Dr. Beshay, my cats always feel comfortable there. Year check ups, vaccines, blood work, etc… he always keeps them healthy with personalized service. All staff are always very nice and welcoming. “Happy cats, happy moms”

I can’t express enough how fantastic the staff are. They did their absolute best helping make a very difficult situation as comfortable as possible. From the time I picked up the phone and made that devastating decision to the final moments of leaving the clinic alone, we were treated with nothing but kindness and compassion. Despite knowing how aggressive our dog was, they ensured he was comfortable and relaxed above anything else. They were gentle during the procedure and tried their best to comfort us as best as possible. Each and every staff member expressed their condolences and ensured we were okay to drive home. I will recommend this place to anyone looking for a caring veterinarian clinic. It’s obvious their patients are most important and it’s not about the money. Thank you for being there in our time of need!

It is difficult to write about my experience but the staff at this clinic were so caring to us and deserve recognition for their care and professionalism. We came to this clinic to euthanize our pet of 15 years. I am not sure if the staff at this clinic sensed that we were in an emergency situation or if it’s just their protocol but they offered for us to come in immediately with minimal questions for which I am so incredibly grateful. The moments leading up to this decision were incredibly traumatic due to events that happened at another clinic but our pet’s final moments here were calm and peaceful. I didn’t get anybody’s name but I remember all their faces, how caring and gentle they were. The dr was quiet and respectful, everything was so calm. I am thankful to everyone there that morning. My only regret is that I didn’t bring my beloved pet here sooner; I truly believe that if I had the outcome would have been so different.

I am very happy with my experience! The prices are very fair especially with the quality of care given to your pet and the wonderful environment! Everyone is very nice! The vet is very kind and knows his profession well! They’re a seriously awesome veterinary clinic! I would only suggest making enough room for everyone to sit, but that is never much of a problem cause usually no one is waiting very long! Very glad to have changed veterinary clinics for my pets! 😊🙌🏼

I am so happy to have found Dr Beshay to look after our fur babies. I was so worried about how my grumpy old dog pip would behave when meeting him for the first time and was amazed. I believe pip could sense his kindness as I could and was so well behaved. He let Dr Beshay give him a good look over with no issues and explain the skin issues that pip has been dealing with and the different options of treatment. We finally have a starting point and hopefully will have some relief soon. Left feeling relieved that I now have my fur baby and fur grand baby in good hands.
