How to Save Money at Pet Cancer Group

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

To begin, I was forced to take down a prior review due to a legal letter from the Doctor’s lawyer threatening legal action if I did not take down my review - it is out of respect and courtesy to the Dr. that I will not share the letter publicly. However, I will not be silenced or intimidated. I do not wish to engage in litigation. I do not have emotional capacity to fight a case as I am grieving the death of my cat. My experience was so upsetting, I believe it would be wrong not to share my opinion and experience of what happened. I would recommend to others to look elsewhere. It is my opinion that the doctor failed to take my cat’s symptoms (such as being dehydrated and not eating) into consideration when beginning the harsh medical treatment. He states he did but i disagree and unfortunately i cannot go further into detail about that as I did on my original review. At the end of the day I counted on the doctors expertise that my cat could take the treatment after examining her the same day I brought her in for the first time. My original review was longer and more detailed in what was my honest account of my experience but for the reasons mentioned, I took it down. It speaks volumes to me that the efficiency shown in delivering the legal letter to my sister (not me directly) stands in stark contrast to the inefficiency of diligently informing me of my cat’s death. It also stands in stark contrast to the lack of sympathy shown towards my family and I. I should not have trusted this professional. I carry a pain and guilt for not asking more questions. Why didn’t I ask if my cat was ready to take CHEMO? Why didn’t I ask if we could hydrate her more or nourish her body more to be stronger to take chemo? Why did I just trust everything the doctor said???WHY DIDNT I READ THE REVIEWS before accepting the treatment??? This is the pain I carry everyday since she passed away a month ago. I should have asked these questions. Instead, I expected a professional to have those details covered. I do not believe the doctor had everything covered. My disappointment with this practice and the lack of sympathy and empathy has only increased. I am in disbelief that Dr Villamil has chosen to escalate this situation into what I feel is a legal threat rather than addressing the concerns that led to my review in the first place. For someone who claims to be compassionate, this approach speaks volumes. To anyone still reading, I repeat, go elsewhere.

Very pleased with Dr. Pedro Dominguez. He was very detailed and explained everything to us. After a scary diagnosis I was able to rest assure my pup will be ok with what he advised. Most times I feel rushed when seeing a vet but Dr. Pedro Dominguez answered any questions we had . 10 stars ⭐️ for him ! Thank you!

My dog start chemo with this clinic. We called an hour before they were to closed to report adverse reaction to the chemo. No empathy or concern they told go to the E.R. I kept asking for advice and information about the chemo drug used but the medical assistant kept repeating the same “Go to the ER.” Doctor couldn’t keep track of the medication he was taking very sloppy care.

I highly recommend this cancer group and the doctor is absolutely phenomenal. They have gone out of their way to assist with all the questions that I have had in regards to the treatment of how are Blue Tick Hound who unfortunately has been diagnosed with lung cancer. This practice is not out to make a quick Buck their pricing is extremely Fair and I definitely highly recommend that if you're having to make the decision to visit a the decision to see a cancer vet this would be number one.
