How to Save Money at VCA Bay Hill Cat Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. Watson Brown is the most caring and dedicated vet staff that we have ever had the privilege of working work and her staff is equally wonderful. My husband and I are so grateful for tye care and support they have provided to our special needs cats.

This review is LONG past due! Dr. Brown and the staff at Bay Hill Cat Hospital are phenominal. I took my two cats there starting in 2020 when they reached 8weeks until I moved out-of-state in April 2022. They grew up with Dr. Brown from being spayed, neutered, vaccinated, regular exams, and boarding. Dr. Brown always spent a lot of time answering my many questions regarding behavior and diet. She also worked with me for medications and provided guidance to keep them calm during the long car ride to our new home. I am still searching for the right vet in our new home. I have not yet found a vet who handles cats the same way as Dr. Brown. She always had a soft comforting approach and handled them in a way that they would back up into her and was never rough with them. I never saw Dr. Brown hold the scruff of my cats neck, which I have seen by three different vets in our new area. Dr. Brown and her team definitely set the standards high!

We've been going here for more than 4 years now. Our little man Pi is a menace who loves to be pet but gets over stimulated very easily. The vets and techs love him and are very patient with him even when he hisses and scratches. I literally can't do this place justice with just a small review. Just know going here your child will be loved and taken care of even if they don't show it back. Sorry about the scratches and bites he says sorry and that he loves you guys for keeping him healthy.

Would rate this vet’s office 10 stars if I could! We are so pleased with the experience we’ve had here and are so grateful for the care, empathy, and professionalism we received! The absolute best office we’ve been to in terms of caring for our girlies (and we’ve been to many primary care, specialist, and ER vet offices). Very clean facility. Friendly and welcoming staff, who are responsive, knowledgeable, and very patient with addressing all our many questions and concerns. Dr. Watson Brown and her staff are very nurturing and the love & affection they have for their feline friends is obvious. We appreciate the lengths they go to to make certain that our cats feel calm, comfortable, and stress-free. Instead of rushing into the exam, they take the time to let your cat get acclimated and emphasize building their trust. Our one cat has had severe anxiety and every vet visit in the past has been a nightmare, but I can’t express how shocked we were that her first visit at Bay Hill was so successful. Also a plus that this office is cats-only and the lingering scent of dogs, etc. is not an additional stress factor we have to worry about! They are so amazing that we don’t mind the 40 min drive! If your cats are your babies, don’t hesitate to take them to Dr. Watson Brown and her wonderful staff.
