How to Save Money at Animal Emergency Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

“Brought our dog Asia into the clinic to be seen because she was not acting normal. It turned out she had something abbreviated as IMHA. The doctor and staff were very knowledgeable about the condition. They were able to diagnose her and were confident with the right medication she would do well. She has no problems since. We are very grateful for the clinic and staff. Would bring our dog back if ever needed for another emergency.”

Brought my dog Gus here for some ingrown toenails. They were great with him. He is not usually a fan of having his feet touched, but had no problems with the technicians here. The doctor was very knowledgeable and willing to answer any questions I had. Would recommend this place to any one that has an emergency with their pet.

This place was so great! Our cat Jasmine got a UTI and starting going in the house! Not many options late at night when I get home from work but they took her right in! Sarah met us at the front desk and pretty much knew right away what the problem was before the exam. Got her in & out quickly and after some antibiotics we haven't had a problem since! They were just all around amazing and didn't treat us like bad pet owners like other places. Thank you guys for saving my other furniture! Would definitely recommend this to anyone!

Technical Reflex

When my German shepherd husky was having trouble breathing for a few days, we took him to the emergency vet. Sara helped us understand what was happening, she took care of my dog as if it was one of her own. She truly cares for each pet that comes through!! So happy we were able to get such amazing help during a crisis.

The care we got was completely incompetent. My small dog was attacked and after x-rays and exam we were sent home with a much too weak painkiller and some antibiotics. (My dog proceeded to scream in pain all the way home.) I was told to follow up with my regular vet in the morning. $900 for this. Immediately the next morning, my own vet was shocked that my dog was sent home and not recommended to be placed at a 24 hour clinic. I received the same response when I did then take him to a 24 hour clinic. He almost died of infection but due to around the clock care at a hospital, he was eventually able to pull through. He also needed Fentanyl for days to manage the pain afterwards and is still on it. I will never trust them with one of my pets again. RESPONSE: The aforementioned inadequate care shows itself in your inability to keep accurate records apparently. This is not a foster dog as I am not a foster caretaker and have never been one. My chihuahua was attacked by a neighbor’s pit bull. All of this information was given. Your vet recommended me to take him home and follow up with my vet in the morning. I confirmed this news in happy disbelief, as I was not expecting this. I was at my vet when they opened the next morning where I was told to get into a hospital ASAP. As mentioned in my original review, two vets, including a well regarded (and reviewed!) 24 hour hospital expressed disappointment in the care given here.
