How to Save Money at Edgewater Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Pickle Jack

Took my precious dog, Pickle here after a visit to the ER Vet couldn’t diagnose my little one’s issues plaguing him for nearly a week. The vet here gave us the correct answers and my dog has significantly improved since then! Very thankful and am very happy we took him here.

Awesome doctor and staff! I brought my pug in today, where Brian and the receptionist was nice enough to squeeze me in last minute. Luna the vet technician was very patient, thorough with her demonstration on how to administer the medication at home, and super nice. The veterinarian was very knowledgeable and I really appreciated his approach when examining my pug. The vet was very gentle with my pug and detailed when explaining his condition. Over all this was the best first time vet visit and I highly recommend this place to anyone.

The most wonderful veterinarian's office I have had nothing but positive experience with all my dogs over the years. I've been bringing my dogs here for about 6 years, They answer all your questions take time with you , and they really love the animals. I would recommend coming here to anyone looking for a caring vet , they also board your dogs which is so nice you don't have to worry when you leave your dogs bc you know they're in a safe place. My dog actually loves going there he gets so excited when he sees the techs/// that's when I really knew I love Edgewater animal Hospital #puppylove #dog

I brought my family dog Mogi in for an exam after he had been having diarrhea, and Dr. Feldman is great! She truly takes her time to explain to you the treatment plan and makes sure you understand what meds you’re going home with and how it’s going to work. He healed up very soon after. I would have given 5 stars but their male receptionist is extremely unpleasant and unprofessional, in person and over the phone. Thank you Dr. Feldman and Raquel for caring for my old guy :)

I made an appointment for my little man to just get his nails trimmed. Last time they only charged me 10 because he didn’t receive the full groom. Plus I had just spent about 300 dollars that day. This time they quoted me a total for 68.00 when asked Erica came up with some fecal thing they was told to do. I said no I only made an appointment for his nails to be trimmed. The guy next to her that works the front desk. Says Erica don’t argue with them just take it off. First off there was no argument at all I only asked the question of why was you charging added up to 68.00 dollars for a nail trim. I believe I have that right to ask for what I’m paying for. Then she charges me 33.00 dollars. I called back of course she knew who I was and I asked how much was a nail trim. Stumbling over her words as she recognized that it was me. She said 33.00 dollars. I called there other location in which I was nicely quoted the price of 25.00 dollars for a full groom being that my dog is a short haired Chihuahua. So he does not have to have his hair cut. I guess had I spent 300 dollars or more that day they would’ve given me the correct price. I want be taking my little man back there. Because now I don’t trust you. Signed Pep’s Mom And his name is not Peppa Erica and whatever his name is at the front desk.
