How to Save Money at Belcher Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Belcher Animal Clinic for veterinary services, and I must say that the level of service I received was exceptional. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with warmth and professionalism by the clinic staff. The veterinarian who attended to my pet was not only knowledgeable but also displayed a genuine love for animals. She took the time to thoroughly examine my pet, answer all of my questions, and explain the treatment options in a way that was easy to understand. It was evident that she had my pet's best interests at heart. Overall, my experience at Belcher Animal Clinic was outstanding. The caring and competent staff, along with their commitment to providing excellent veterinary care, left me with a strong sense of trust and gratitude. I highly recommend this clinic to anyone seeking top-notch care for their furry companions.

Dr St John has taken care of all our babies for many years. He has certainly earned his retirement. Our pets always got excellent and prompt care at a reasonable price. I miss Dr St John so much and wish he could have been our vet forever. .Unfortunately things have changed . New vet is rude, wants to argue, about everything and prices are through the roof! One visit was all it took! There are other caring vets in Clearwater. I found one. To Dr St John, Sandy and staff.... we miss you, thank you for taking care of all our babies. Enjoy your retirement! I tried to leave 0 stars for the new practice but it would not let me post!

I have been going to Belcher Animal Clinic since 1994 and wouldn’t go anywhere else. Dr. St. John is very kind, knowledgeable, and a doc with integrity. I recommend him to anyone looking for a vet. The staff is friendly and the office is well run. This vet is popular so wait times can get long, but well worth it to know your pet is in the very best hands.

This USED to be an affordable place. Not so much now, now that they were bought out and under new management. I took my dog in there yesterday to get his shots and an exam to get his teeth cleaned. They want OVER 900$ just to get his teeth cleaned. Now is that not ridiculous? And that's not including having teeth pulled, (which he needs as well, but the cleaning comes first).. so I can only IMAGINE what the cost of the pulling of teeth would be. I'll not be returning here with my pets. They are definitely NOT the same in pricing or care. They're there to rob ya blind now. BTW. I did find another vet that will do my dogs cleaning, with all that was entailed with this vets fees.. for 430$ HUGE difference and this place is going to start to lose business fast!!! Needless to say that I had an appointment with my other 2 rescues to go here this week. That will not be happening EVER. They are a money hungry VET now. Something that the other crew and the Dr/his wife did not do to you. They actually cared and they didn't gauge your pockets. What a shame to take a mans business that WANTED to help you in every which way without wanting JUST money, he wanted to make sure your PET was #1 and the pricing was suitable to keep that pet #1 and not the lining of your pockets.
