How to Save Money at Penasquitos Pet Clinic
Schedule Regular Vet Visits
One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.
Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions
Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.
Pet Insurance
Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Get Quotes & CompareGetting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask
Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:
Tell me about your experience with [pet type].
Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.
How do you handle emergencies?
You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.
How do you communicate with pet owners?
Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.
Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?
Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.
Do you have any questions for me about my pet?
This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.
Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?
Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.
Reviews from Google
I am deeply saddened and disappointed by my experience at Rancho Peñasquitos Veterinary Clinic. When I first brought my kitten in for his initial vaccines, I mentioned that his belly seemed unusually large for his size. I was told that his spine was visible, that he was simply too skinny, and that I should feed him more. At our second visit for his follow-up vaccines, a different veterinarian examined him and expressed concern that he might have FIP and stated vaccines could not be administered. We immediately proceeded with testing; cost was not a concern, as we understood the seriousness of the situation. Unfortunately, despite the urgency of a possible FIP diagnosis, communication and follow-up were extremely delayed. It took nearly a week to receive a response regarding the prescription and next steps. There was no sense of urgency throughout the process, and tragically, our cat passed away. In addition, our other cat has an ongoing eye infection related to a prior upper respiratory infection, and we experienced a similar lack of urgency and responsiveness in addressing his care. I understand that veterinary medicine can be complex and outcomes are not always predictable. However, what has been most distressing is the absence of timely communication and urgency in situations that clearly warranted it. Because of these experiences, we have made the difficult decision to seek care elsewhere. I truly wish our experience had been different.

We had a wonderful experience at this clinic. The vet explained his diagnosis in great detail. He had excellent people skill in addition to his animal skill :) I really appreciate the concern he showed to our pet’s symptoms. The technician was also very sweet and professional. I was also very happy with the cost of the care we received today. This will be the primary care clinic for our cat.

Penasquitos Pet Clinic was referred to me as I brought my new puppy home. We've been several times now for both completing our puppy shots, also an unexpected trip when my pup was sick for a few days and as an over-protective new fur mom I ran to the vet! Everyone here is super friendly, give lots of love and most importantly quality care. My pup loves visiting the vet as they always give her plenty of love to make the visit more enjoyable. I highly recommend!

THIS CLINIC IS AWESOME!!! Ok, so our chihuahua scrounges where she wasn’t supposed to and eats an entire chicken drumstick overnight! Of course it just so happens on the same day that my fiancé has a flat tire and the truck needs to go to the shop! So, panic sets in that morning as to where we can be worked in to get Coco seen and evaluated. We call PEÑASQUITOS PET CLINIC and they immediately prepared to see her with no questions other than where else has she been to the vet. We split forces and my fiancé takes Coco while I deal with the tire. Skip ahead, and by the time the tire is taken back, PQ PET CLINIC conference calls us with the great news that Coco is fine, she’ll pass the chicken bones through and she’ll need maintenance for teeth and health soon. DR PICHT, CECEILIA, and the ENTIRE CLINIC get my HIGHEST RATING! Thank you all very much for being there in a pinch, being so thorough, and being so caring!

Amazing team! We moved to PQ two years ago and just so glad a friend recommended this place! We were assigned to Dr Picht who went above and beyond when our elderly cat went on the decline and was ultimately put down. But all of the staff members are so friendly, patient, and supportive: very professional with every interaction! They all genuinely seem to enjoy working there! Another small thing but one I liked: they have separate entrances for dogs and cats.
